Rose and Rebellion Carriers - Worth the money?

I love the look of these carriers, but they aren't cheap. I've got a Kari-me, which is lovely but ds who is nearly 7 months and already quite chunky drags it down a bit now.

Are they comfortable to wear on your back for a reasonable amount of time? I don't mind spending the money if it's going to last me for a while, so would love to hear people's opinions.

Thank you!

Would you consider 2nd hand? I've got a Didymos wrap and 3 MT's, all bought for a fraction of their list price and in fantastic condition

UKbabywearingSWAP mailgroup and NaturalMamas are worth keeping an eye on.

Good quality carriers are expensive, but there is a large amount of research, development and quality control that goes on unseen to make sure the product is consistent, comfortable for you and your LO and above all, safe - and they do tend to last well .

I would certainly say they are worth the money. I've used mine almost every day for the last 4 months, and find it really comfy, and the quality is really excellent. It's made in the UK so not some cheaply produced foreign thing. Also it's reversible to a plain black and even my husband loves carrying our little one in it. Im no sling virgin having owned 4 before this one and it's the first one i've felt truly comfortable in for any period of time. Oh, and of course they look gorgeous too!
I've got this one www.roseandrebellion.com/page9.htm

That one is lovely mummylovestoshop. What age is your lo or, more importantly I suppose, how heavy?

We lived in a Close carrier at the beginning, then moved on to a Kari-Me, wearing him on the front, but I'm finding the strain on my back a bit too much now, and the back carrying position needs 2 people to put on, and I understand that the R&R ones can be used by one person, and that will take ds's hefty weight comfortably. I like the fact that they're reversible as I can't see dp wearing the patterned side.

Tangle - no problem with second hand, but I've my eye on one particular pattern on the Rose and Rebellion site, which makes it mor tricky. I'll definitely check out those sites you mention. Thanks!

we have a connecta www.connectababycarrier.com/

which looks to be the same - we love it have used it from about 8 weeks on my front and every day from about 6 months on my back for 2 x hour long dog walks a day, as well as much longer walks on holiday - DD is 11 months and it is SO comfortable - I would recommend getting one with the hood bit that clips up as she often falls asleep and it can then be clipped her to stop her head flopping about - we have the solarweave connecta and have also used the hood when very hot and also over easter we used it ont he beach when it was very windy which protected her a bit! I know the connecta lady will add the hood to any of hers that don't ahve it if you email her! highly highly recommend it

fairimum · 01/05/2009 09:17

ok just seen the connecta is very slightly differnt in that the waist strap sort of goes the other way and isn't quite as padded but i have always been very comfortable with the connecta and it doesnt pull at all!
Will add a picture of DD in the connecta to profile in a sec!

aubergenie · 01/05/2009 09:38

Oh these are lovely as well! Your DD looks so happy. The hood feature sounds very useful. I'm off to do some more research...

I SO want a pretty one too... but just can't justify it at the moment as the solarweave one is fab and i really have no need for another!

aubergine - have you come across www.thebabywearer.com? They have reviews of 64 different commercially available soft structured carriers here (they also have a very active 2nd hand / FSOT board, which is mainly US based but you can get a bargain if the $rate is favourable). Just in case you wanted more choice

mummylovestoshop · 02/05/2009 07:53

Hi Aubergenie my son is just over 2 now I can put him onto my back easily on my own. I also have a 4 year old that I have carried in it and could manage that fine as well.

I have used the Connecta that is being mentioned they are a good carrier but I wasn't a fan of the lack of waist padding I found it pulled on my shoulders and wasn't so comfortable on my waist, the rose and rebellion has a padded waist band that seems to suit me a lot more it's means it doesn't pull at all on my shoulders and is very comfortable on my waist and hips.

I hope that helps
