I need a new washing machine and have heard that miele are the best.
However they are alot of money and I was wondering if they are really worth it?

Yes - got a not quite middle of the range one, cost about £800 but very pleased with it. Extremely quiet, which is why we bought it (they are very very heavy - which is why they don't vibrate too much). Last one sounded like concord going off.

Its got a looooong Miele guarantee. Not sure how long off top of my head, but longer than you normally get. I think it is money well spent - I can live without a dishwasher / microwave etc, but a working washing machine is ESSENTIAL.

I know a washine machine repair man and he clocked it as soon as he walked in the kitchen - respect!

I couldn't justify the money as it will pack up eventually however we got advised that Bosch isn't far off the mark and quite a bit cheaper.

We got a our Bosch one 6 years ago and we've not had a whimper. My dc are now 5,5 and 6. It survived their babyhood, a brief spell with washable nappies, 6 months in storage, 4 moves, a copious amount of sand and countless switching on/off during cycles.

Couldn't fault it! Oh and it has a big drum!!!!!!!!

MilaMae · 30/04/2009 13:35

Sorry the dc are now 5,5 and 4.

we have had one for about a year. It is very quiet, and has a 10 year guarantee.

I hope it is worth it

Well, ours washes as well on the fast/cool (30 min 30 degree) cycle as our previous (cheap) machines did on a full/warm wash. However, it does keep tripping out the electrics in the house - I think the circut board may be shorting... but having a 10 yr guarantee means that is not a problem - our cheaper ones would have been in the bin long ago if they had the same problem.

Bought my aunt a top of the range one online for a better price than in the shops as she thinks im quite 'net savvy' (err..ok!) but anyway, hers was £1300 i think (top spec) and i have seen her whites when they come out, and they GLEAM! she has pure cotton sheets and duvet covers that really don't need an iron cos of the machines anti-crease wotsit- the machine is an ugly looking bugga from the outside, but its whats on the inside that counts(!) found the best price from a small shop in oxford called o'gormans (advertised online)- it was the best find and with free delivery. even beat online prices from merchants with not very good reviews under their belt.

not sure I agree with that. Mine still come out creased despite the anti crease thing, and not sure they are gleaming either (but then washing is not my forte ).

But they are quiet, they are easy to use and easy to pick the options you want. And most of all they have a long guarantee.

Yes,yes, yes. I used to have to rub soap into the necks and cuffs of school shirts, before washing to get them clean now the washing machine takes care of it. The boys play soccer and come home with mud caked into their pants. Now the prewash and ordinary cycle together take care of it. I cannot recommend it highly enough. The one I got had a 10year parts and labour guarantee at the time, and cost 1000euro. It was at the end of January. I think the fact that Miele keep parts for all their models for 20 years speaks volumes about their expectations of durability.

wannaBe · 01/05/2009 12:39

yes. I bought one about a year ago and it is very quiet plus very easy to use (most washing machines now have all digital displays and menus etc which are impossible for me but mine has a dial for programmes and is no problem).

Ladybird0143 · 23/08/2010 12:45

Wouldn't part with my Miele. Had it for 4 years now and it's quiet and really efficient. I did have a Bosch before that - it lasted about 9 years so that was pretty good too and perhaps a good cheaper option.

diggingintheribs · 23/08/2010 13:03

my parents miele is 20 years old. bought when living abroad. had a problem a few years after moving back to the UK - they came and fixed it for free.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 23/08/2010 15:03

We bought the Prestige Plus 6 a few months ago and it is lovely. Intuitive to use, very quiet, even when spinning and great guarantee.

I got sick of our machines all lasting 3 years, no more. We went through 3 machines in less than 10 years. So bought the Miele in the hope it will last at least 10 years alone and save us some money.

spottedandstriped · 23/08/2010 20:26

Yes yes yes very pleased with ours
