side-by-side double buggies

Hi

I need to buy a side-by-side buggy for my dd aged 2yrs 6 months (and quite big/tall) and my newborn (when a bit bigger). Any recommendations/advice? I've been recommended the Mamas & Papas Aria but am put off b/c of the restraint bar across the front of the seats - don't fancy the thought of heaving my dd in and out on a daily basis. My dd currently has a Maclaren Techno and absolutely loves it (I'm very happy with it too). However, the Mumsnet reviews do say that the Maclaren twin pushchairs have very narrow seats, which wouldn't be great for dd.

Please don't recommend any 3-wheelers as I've got one already and it's like a Sherman tank!

Any comments?

I only have experience of the 3 wheeler urban detour from mothercare and it is quite manageble - very light and easy to push. Limits where you can go due to width - i.e. yes to the bakers but not to the newsagent!

I have just had the same problem, and have bought a Maclaren OPus Duo, which I have found fantastic. DS is 2 1/4 and a big lad, and narrow seat has not been an issue. The back flap is very large and doesn't let the wind whistle through for DD who is now 9 months, but I have been using it since 2 or 3 months old and have no problems. The turning circle is really good and tight and I have been able to get through most local shop doorways. It comes with a rain cover which is quite adequate for the purpose. I got it froma great website which has it for £99 instead of £250. I would put the website here but I'm new to this site and don't know how to, but if you need to know I;m sure someone will help me?!

I bought my urban detour second hand - most dont seem to get that much use as the older child grows out of it so you can pick up some well maintained second hand one - I paid £80 for mine complete with rain cover and it was immaculate - I'll probably sell it on once ds1 is too big

We've bought a Maclerent opus duo from Kiddicare too. The new baby isn't due until September so its still in the box at the moment however when DS2 tried it out he didn't looked squashed at all and actually looked quite comfy.
The only thing I'm concerned about is that he hates having the rain cover on his buggy and as the 'Opus' has one big hood/raincover he'll pull that off too.....but I suppose thats something I can sort out once I need too. At £99 instead of £250 I'm not going to worry as it's such a bargain.
