IPod died - advice needed!

My favourite 'toy' - IPod Nano - seems to have completely died on me and I've had it just over 2 years. Has this happened to anyone else in what seems to me quite a short time? I love it but DH says it isn't worth trying to get it fixed. So is my best option to buy a new one??

ipods are notorious for doing this. Did you buy it new or was it a recon? Think DH is right -you would be better off buying a new one.

(Although if he is anything like my DH, he will be looking for 'excuses' to upgrade - atm he has his eye on the iphone and keeps muttering hopefully 'I'm sure my blackberry battery is failing. hmm....)

What's happened to it? Can you reset it?

loobs2 · 26/04/2009 15:50

Yep it was brand new. Know what you mean about DH - it's only a matter of time before mine trades in his Blackberry for iphone as well!Bad time for spending 100-odd quid but DH reckons it'd cost 50-60 for replacement battery (if that is the problem)anyway, then there's the hassle. Hmm...

Yep mine did it.
I was under the impression that apple could just replace the battery, but I took it into the apple store and all they culd do was offer me 10% off a new one In future, I wouldn't bother with an ipod. You can get much better MP3 players for much less money.
It's a shame really, apple's customre care seems to have gone right down in the last few years. When I got my first ipod I dropped it down the toilet the first day I got it, and they replaced it with no quibble. I suspect they just didn't want to touch it

Scootergrrrl our messages overlapped - for ages it's needed charging after each use of about an hour and even when switched off it's been turning itself on sometimes! I tried charging it overnight last night but screen completely blank and it won't switch on at all now.

Any help?

Yes unfortunately they seem to be hardwired to die after two or three years. My Mini did this, although I was secretly quite pleased as I needed one with more space and this gave me an excuse to upgrade.

Apple charge an eye watering amount to get them fixed, I think you'd be better off saving up for a new one.

Thanks all for your help - for better or worse have decided to give up on the one I've got and be especially nice to DH in the hope I can get a new one soon. And although I'm sure there are plenty of better and cheaper alternatives I'm afraid I love the Nano design too much to consider anything else. Got my eye on shocking pink this time!
