Folding and opening a Phil & Teds Sport, is it just me who finds it difficult???

I've had one for a few weeks now and although it's a fantastic buggy I AM having problems with opening and shutting it.

I seem to keep either scuffing the handlebar or a bar at the front (where the wheel fits in)

I basically end up grabbing a bar in the middle and lifting the entire buggy off the ground and let it shut 'in the air'. This isn't good for a nearly 6 month pregnant woman with SPD!

Is there an easier way of doing it.

Also, do the brakes loosen up. The bar is REALLY hard to press down and release!

Just wondering whether these things are normal for a P&T or whether it's just my one, or me!!!

Have heard that this happens loads, my friend has had a P&T for 2 years and still struggles with opening and closing. We had a look at one in the shop last week and even the woman demonstrating really struggled to open ans shut it. I hope someone comes along soon with good tips for you.

how does yours unlock does it have a grey button on the side?

The brakes do get looser - mine did anyway. They still need a hefty boot though, quite hard to do in flips flops or similar.

As to folding it, there is a knack I think, it gets easier with time. in the end I could kind of fling it out of the car holding the handle while it clicked together, DH was MOST impressed!!

yes it does have a grey button on the side, but TBH I never seem to shut it completely anyway so the grey button doesn't need pressing.

It seems to be thte only buggy I've ever owned where you can't lay it on the ground and open it easily and vice versa.

ok here goes no laughing at my descriptions,

To fold I stand behind the buggy and reach down and release the tabs at the bottom of the main seat. The handle then goes back onto my foot, I lift the front wheel back making sure that the shopping basket is tucked in and click it into lock. You then have the bar under the seat in front of you facing forward, grab this with one hand and lift and the handle bar with the other and put in car or wherever.

To unfold, I put the handle bar on my foot with the front wheel facing outwards again. Press the grey button at the side, front wheel swings out. Put that down on floor and kind of lift handle and roll wheels at same time and it locks upright.

This is the only way I can do it, bearing in mind I bought one of these when my littlest was born, sold in after a few weeks as could not fold etc. After three months got another as couldn't find anything else as adaptable and have loved it ever since!

p.s. The ladies in John Lewis asked me about folding my p+t when I was shopping in there and they thought it was much better than the way they were demoed ( the rep trapped his finger aparantly)

EXCELLENT description larsazlol!!

I'll try that tomorrow. It does seem a bit of a faff the folding mechanism for this buggy!

It is a PITA. I've had mine for 15 months now and the brakes are still very tight. I can only unlock them if I'm wearing thick walking boots or wellies. No way could I do it in flip-flops and the like - I'd break my toes.

HeinzSight · 25/04/2009 19:58

WHY (!!!!!) given their genius design did they make the brakes so difficult to operate?????????????????

I no longer have my Sport as dcs have outgown it but I always used the method above where I 'balanced' the pushchair with the handle resting on the top of my foot. Found this the easiest way plus it stops the handle getting scuffed.

Brakes never loosened, sorry to say. They are a bloody pain but at least you know they are secure. I ended up always bending down and taking them off by hand.
