Sling for BIG 8m old and bad back (didymos?)

I have to buy either a sling or a folding pushchair to take DS1 to school on the bus, sling would be easier but I have a really bad back and DS2 is HUGE (size of a 1yr old) Are the didymos worth the money? Ideally I think I'd like to carry him more on my hip.
Thanks

The Ergo is great for me and I have a bad back

I've got a Didy and it is very good - the weave gives just enough stretch to be comfy whilst still feeling really supportive. I still carry DD and she's just turned 2 and weighs just over 2 stone. I've also got a couple of Mei Tais that I get on with well now DD is bigger. I've never really mastered hip carries, though.

A lot of the other branded woven wraps (Ellaroo, Hoppediz, Vatanai to name a few) are very good as well - most will work for most people, although some find one particular weave a lot easier to wear. That's really down to personal experience, though.

Can you get to a slingmeet? You'd probably be able to try a didy and some others and see how you get on - they'd also be able to help you work out what carries you like and how long a sling you need. Otherwise, you could look at getting a wrap 2nd hand - UKbabywearingSWAP mailgroup and Natural Mamas are both worth a look. You'll pay a fraction of the new price, and if it doesn't work out you can sell it on at minimal cost to you

Also meant to say that hip carries can be convenient but 2 shoulder carries are generally much more supportive and so easier on your back, especially if you're carrying for any length of time.

I carry my nine month old in a Becco which is like the Ergo on my back. I have a bad back and can't carry him on my front without it really hurting. But it is fine with him on my back. Any soft sructured carrier like this would work.

I just ordered a Moby for 2 weeks (they didn't do didymos for hire and thouht I had better try first) Thanks for the links If I don't get on with the moby, I'll try something else
