Hi folks..

Am thinking this is kinda the wrong place to post this, but it is a product in the loosest sense of the word so here goes!

DH and I are planning to trade up to a slightly less crappy s/hand car. We have been looking mainly at the Focus, but want some more options in case we can't find a good one in our (v limited!) price range. Any advice please? Main req's are that it needs to be 5 door and I want a decent boot so that it can cater for any buggies we will hopefully need in the next year or so. Am looking at Renault Megane, Vauxhall Astra, Seat Leon style hatchbacks.. any advice greatly appreciated

{WH worries she should be posting this on Dadsnet instead...}

Seat Leon is a good drive according to dp - he can't remember boot space. We had a Honda Jazz which had surprising space for a small car. Currently have and A4 Avant - crap crap never buy - sorry rant over.

We have a focus - it's fine, practical & nice to drive. The boot size is ok - I can fit a mountain buggy in mine & they do not fold up particulary small!

Last week I had a large suitcase, travel cot, maclaren buggy & various bags all crammed into it ok.

Thanks guys, really helpful. Think we are leaning heavily towards the Focus. Shame about no Isofix, but you can't have everything! Impressed that you can get so much in the boot SaltCod!

We have a focus estate and I think the boot space is excellent - it fits a long umbrella fold buggy widthways rather than having to go diagonally. We have gone away with 2 dcs inc travel cot, bags etc and been able to keep the boot cover on (i.e. boot was only filled halfway up!)

Most of the manufacturers put internal dimensions on their car specifications which can usually be found in pdf form on line - worth looking once you have narrowed down to a few cars

we have a focus cmax which has a great boot considering the size of the car

Concordia · 19/04/2009 20:49

we have a cmax too and it has great boot space.
if you get one of those 'what car' type magazines they have the volume of boot space in some of their comparison tables. we found that in comparison the renault scenic had quite a bit less, but still not bad, when we wree buying.

VW golf. can't beat it in the small family car class. fab boot space.

we have an MGZR which we love,it also has 3 x 3point seatbelts which is SO handy as we now have 3 car seats in the back (im sure a focus does too)
a peugeot 307 is also a good size,
we had a focus estate too a wee while ago (it was a w reg) and it was a great car,

Just to say - that you can get isofix put in a second hand car. I had mine put in at the dealers (not a ford but same applies) for £30 each side.

ronshar · 22/04/2009 22:48

I had a Alfa 147. Excellent car. No problems with it at all. It has a fairly big boot. I kept all kinds of crap in there. Including a buggy, set of saucepans, three sets of wellies, a first response bag for work, fluorescent jacket. As you can agree, loads of crap.
