Recommendations for toddler boys sandels?

I think the Burkenstocks are really cute, but not sure they will be too easy for a 16 month old to walk in. Also not sure if small enough for him. Anyone seen anything like this?

Or could you recommend something else?

Cheers

get proper sandals with straps IME

he won;t be able to keep the birkies on

TK Max had some great offers on recently if there is one near you

also Clarke's Doodles are nice and sometimes on offer

iwantitnow · 17/04/2009 15:52

doodles or crocs

nicolamumof3 · 17/04/2009 17:13

for a 16m old deffo clarks i think they are soft inside and will be more comfy. genuine crocs are fab to for in/out of garden.

missmapp · 17/04/2009 17:15

Ive jsut got my ds2 ( 19mths) some timberland sandals that are not leather so he can walk in and out of the sea ( i am pretending we will have a summer!) ds1 had the same pair and they proved very comfy

Marne · 17/04/2009 17:16

maybe something like this, i dont like putting LO's in open toes.

Tommy · 17/04/2009 17:16

def take him to a proper shoe shop and get them fitted. Clarks do nice sandals as do Start-rite

HensMum · 17/04/2009 17:18

Clarks Doodles are not great if your toddler has wide feet. DS can't get in them which I'm a bit about as I think they are super-cute.
So, we got some ones with two velcro straps from Mothercare. And a pair of canvas trainers from www.shoesforkids.co.uk

feedthegoat · 17/04/2009 17:25

Ds has had some nice Timberland ones. I've really gone off Clarks for sandals as I've twice fallen for their insistence that need growing room (I'm a fool, I go there full of resolve then let myself be talked round ). I found if there is growing room left my ds was constantly flat on his face. I actually threw a pair in the bin after four days and four blood soaked falls (he's never done this in normal shoes - he literally fell over every 2 or 3 minutes). Several of my friends have said their dc are the same. I would be very careful with open toes if they don't fit perfectly.

LIZS · 17/04/2009 17:25

I'd agree with Marne . An independent shoe fitter recommended closed toes until they had been walking properly for over a year or could be a trip hazard. Geox, Merrell and Naturino are wider fitting - like these.

lynniep · 17/04/2009 17:29

I second issue with Clarks Doodles. DH came home with some for DD last year and they were clearly far too tight (despite being a G fitting) - the straps just werent long enough for his high foot, and the velcro not strong enough to only have a little bit fastened.

cheekychopsmum · 19/04/2009 08:31

Thanks for the advice about closed toe sandals, now I know what style I'm looking for

We bought some crocs for my ds1 last year and they were fab, he never had any problems walking in them.

TheMadHouse · 19/04/2009 08:42

Startright ones are wider than doodles DS2 can not fit in to loads of shoes due to his wide feet. We were recomended propper crocs and he lived in them last summer and I have just bought some for this summer (he wore the other pair as slippers all winter too).

I find that sadles just rub on his feet (even timberlandones) as the straps are not in the right place for him.

Try an independant childrens shoe shop nad they will advise.

When DS1 was smaller we had a lovley leather startright closed tow pair with buckles - very old fasioned, but really cool

Clayhead · 19/04/2009 08:52

The children's Birkenstocks do come with straps! Two on the top of the foot and one at the back. Both my dc have has their Roma sandals and they were fine. They start at a size 24 iirc.

blametheparents · 19/04/2009 09:27

I was going to mention TKMAxx too.
I went in a couple of days ago and saw DD's Ecco sandals from last year at half price.
They also had a good selection of boys' sandals

ohdearwhatamess · 19/04/2009 11:35

Ds1 had some nice ones from JoJoMamanBebe last year. Didn't seem to rub and provided enough support.
