Prams without systems

I'm getting pretty bored of advice from those who haven't recently had to negotiate the trecherous swamp of pushchair products: "You don't need a system, so-and-so spent £600 on a system and she hardly even used it before switching to a stroller" etc etc

Now I don't particularly want a system, but unless I am mistaken, (and please, someone, tell me I am mistaken) what these people fail to appreciate is that you can't use (most) lightweight strollers from birth (unless you don't mind your baby being forward facing) and you can't buy a pram except as part of a system.

I am sincerely hoping someone will tell me I'm wrong because I'm about 1 month of giving birth and I have my heart set on a (relatively) inexpensive lightweight Maclaren stroller from about 6 months onwards. I would love to find a rearward facing pram which is small enough to get on a bus / in the boot of a ford focus to tide me over until then but it doesn't seem to be possible to buy one without the corresponding pushchair element of a system at enormous cost.

Any ideas? Anyone? Please?

What about a Bebo Confort Loola? They have them on offer at Boots just now at a very reasonable price. They also have quite good resale value.

the systems are great for the car seat option IMHO, but if you really don;t like them, and are going to be busing it is a lot, have you thought about a sling while baby is tiny?

well there are a number of light weight umbrella type strollers that can have a carrycot bit attached to them- making them a pram that faces you for the early days. This is what I would go for if you.

I know you want something lightweight, but there are a few options that aren't super light, but aren't insanely heavy either that lie flat so can be used from birth, but also can face mama or the world. I'm after something similar and this what I've found so far:

Inglesina Otutto
Bebe Confort Streety
Britax Vigour (may be bigger than you'd like)
Bebecar Ip Op
Mia Moda Allegria

Good luck!
