Lego - can it be machine washed without getting scratched and faded?

Just wondering - I've been offered some lego to buy from a friend of a friend. I was told its nice and clean cos its been machine washed. I once machine washed some mega blox and it ruined them, they were completely scuffed and scratched and faded.

As this lego will come via a 3rd party it would be very awkward for me to say 'no thanks' when it arrives.

Has anyone tried to machine wash lego and how did it turn out?

Thanks ladies!

I've never tried to machine wash lego before. You mean in a washing machine?

I have put quite a few of dc's (plastic) toys in the dishwasher before though with some success.

I guess if you did that with lego it'd have to be in some sort of basket though or it would go all over the place. And maybe not on the hottest wash.

We bought some Duplo from a car boot sale and bunged it in the dishwasher.

It was fine, no scratches or fading.

But, I wouldn't put anything like that in a washing machine. Items don't tend to move around and bash into things in a dishwasher like they do in a washing machine.

Did they say what machine it had been washed in?

No idea what machine, I'm told its been 'machine washed'. I think I will just have to be strict and say no thanks if it arrives looking a mess.
But the girl selling it is in desperate financial straights so I can see me handing over my cash anyway
I will text the 3rd party later and ask whether it was dishwasher or washing machine.
Thanks!

I'd stick it in sth like a colander and the cutlery basket in a dishwasher.

I would wash lego on the 40 degrees wash in the dishwasher, OR, in the washing machine IF it was tied up in a pillowcase.

I wouldn't put lego loose in the washer, of course it'll get smashed about (wouldn't do the washer much good, and blimey the NOISE). But tie it up fairly tight in a pillow case, sling a couple of towels in the machine too, I reckon it'd work.

The mega blox I washed were in a pillowcase!

I will wait till I see the stuff, if its not too bad I will probably buy it anyway...

mega blox are imo softer plastic, I have washed duplo and lego in the washing machine but in a pillowcase - it was fine. Not sure what it would have been like if it was loose.
