iCandy Pear - approximate prices?

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 12/04/2009 22:30

I get the whole can't buy it on-line thing but before going to look at in the shop I just wanted to get a vague ball-park idea of prices so I know if it's even a vague possibility. . I'm looking at it mainly as I need a very compact tandem and would like the carrycot/carseat option.

Anyone have any ideas on prices?

thanks.

Don't do it whatever the price - and there are usually loads on ebay being sold by people (like me) who had their lives with a new baby ruined by the iCandy Pear. Do a search of the threads on mn.
Everything is too compact apart from the price and the weight.
Dh thinks we paid about £460 for ours (will go down as one of the biggest mistakes of my life since having children).

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 12/04/2009 22:41

Mrs Fogi - what have now got? I'm having a really tough time as I will have a newborn in September and also a 3.5 year old (who is tiny, more the size of a 2 year old). My dd is disabled so I just don't have the option of walking or buggy boards. Can you tell me what's the worst bit about it?

how about a phil and teds?
it would prob last you longer than a pear too,as the seat unit on the pear isnt that big,

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 12/04/2009 23:00

we've had a look at the P&T but it seems very bulky and hard to fold up - I'm a maclaren girl at heart and rarely use it for long walks it tends to be short distances like getting dd's from car park into school. The seat shape of the P&T didn't seem to offer dd much support either. It's all such a big decision as I've got to get it right as everything is so expensive!

lol the phil and teds is really easy to fold, you just pull a clip at either side and it more or less folds itself,
its also really small when folded, def smaller than the pear with all its extras,
i never used the coccoon with my newborn as i found he was cosy in there with a blanket tucked round him,but if you would be using it a lot( i only used mine a handful of times as i dont really use a buggy) i would go for the coccoon with it as its nice and cosy,

claret1980 · 12/04/2009 23:59

I have a P&T Sport and it is fab. Couldn't live without it. My ds2 has now gone into the doubles seat at the back. He was very cosy in the cocoon but grew out of it at 4.5 months. ds1 is 2.5 and loves to "drive" in the front.

I was looking at the pear but it had too many bad reviews and the cost was too high. I got my P&T off ebay without the cocoon for £300.

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 13/04/2009 17:35

there's only one or two on ebay at the moment and I can't find many criticisms other than it all being a bit compact but my dd is tiddly so I think I'll have a look at it in the shop. I really don't want a P&T. I know some people love them but they're just not for me.

I had the Apple which is the pear but without the double seat, I found the Apple really hard to steer and heavy etc etc and that was without the doubles seat!!!!

I don't know of any who would recommend the Pear it is very very very heavy. I would have a look at all the 3 wheelers - is the new Jane powertwing any good? Or you could the hoxton umbrella folding thing if you aren't going to use it much. Other than that a slimline side by side 3 wheeler.

I had a 14 month gap between my middle two and a double pushchair is so much heavier and difficult to steer than a single pushchair.

artisan127 · 14/04/2009 10:10

I am the proud owner of an iCandy Pear and its the best decision I EVER made. The very simple fact of the matter is it is the best pushchair on the market that allows both of my children to face me. I had my new born in the very important flat carry cot and my toddler in the seat unit and I had great interaction with them both. Its very important that you have this social interaction with your children because as a teacher I know that you child speaks sooner and are more confident when facing parent.

I did try and buy one off ebay but was always piped at the post and to be honest they usually went foe £100 less than buying it new. I now get the back up from my local store if anything goes wrong- touch wood.

Hi

Why not have a look at their new twin the 'Peach Blossom'

MrsFogi · 14/04/2009 12:48

Hbb I've got a Phil and Teds. I went for the iCandy Pear as I really really wanted to have the lye-flat carrycot and the option of the babies facing me. However the carrycot was virtually unusable as there is a bar accross the middle of it so you have to contort/bend the baby to get them into it - ok if the baby is cooperative and not asleep not great if it is asleep (it wakes up) or is not cooperative (like my dd2). My 21 month was so squashed in the buggy seat she refused to get in after a while (she's a totally average size). I didn't really want a P&Ts but it has worked out fine and certainly isn't the only double option on the market. I was so fed up of the pear I was ready to throw it out of the front door for the bin men to collect so suddenly the P&T didn't look like such a bad option.
Take a close look at how it works "forward facing" as it seems to me that with the hood of the carrycot up you'd actually get more interaction with the baby if it was in a P&T.
Worst bit - uncomfortable for the children, difficult to steer, difficult to put in the car (you need to take it all apart, leave on road then put back in car in a certain order if you want any space left in the boot (and I have a big car), doesn't really have as many options as you'd think re seating as you'd have to choose whether to buy the front or back carrycot which will then determine which seating configurations you can use, heavy, I could go on forever - I HATED it with a passion!
If you do consider it please, please take loads of time to really test it out in the shop (take a doll to use as a baby), take it apart yourself, pile it up as though to go in a car, check how heavy it is, understand what you will and won't be able to do with seating configuration, ask to see what you get for your money when you pay for a "carrycot".

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 14/04/2009 16:45

I had a look at the pear today - as soon as the woman in the shop started having to pull off all sorts of bits to dismantle it I just said 'no thanks' . We tried the P&T sport and vibe - the sport didn't fit dd and offer her decent enough support and footrest. The vibe did the job but I just don't think we can afford the £550. Even after looking on-line the cheapest I can see it for is £525. I also like the out'n'about nipper double - lovely to push but the most upright position left dd looking like she was in a deckchair and she was already straining to sit up. Decisions Decision!

I had a Jane Powertwin and loved it. The Jane Twin Two would give you the option of a lie flat car seat too.

MrsFogi · 14/04/2009 20:45

Have you thought about the bebe confort double, I think they're not that easy to source in the UK but I thought it looked great when I first started to look at doubles (until I had my head turned by the iCandy marketing) you'll find a picture here - www.nappyvalley.co.uk/Double-Buggy-Bebe-Confort-converts-into-single_s-4_aid-3209.html#

MrsFogi · 14/04/2009 20:49

Google Bebe Confort twin club.

Wow ladies! I couldn?t have had a more opposite experience between the Pear and the Phil & Teds! I ditched my P&T with complete frustration ?have a look at these posts:

www.reviewcentre.com/reviews138117.htm1

After a great deal of research from which seat widths were also really important to me I was able to confirm that the Pear dimensions were also far more generous than the P&T. I had a rummage through a file and managed to rescue my research?P & T seat width 27cms, P&T second seat unit 23cms, Pear upper seat unit 32cms, Pear lower seat unit 29cms. I can honestly say the Pear has been the best product I have bought since having children. Being a British company makes it even better?.if possible!

Babylove502 · 07/05/2009 13:40

I use to have a Jane powertwin and I hated it. It was so heavy and hard to control, the front wheel use to vibrate alot and once ot completely tipped over with two children in. Im quite small and couldn't pick it back up,luckily a man came to my rescue but I refused to use it after that. Also it took up so much space in my boot. At first I really didn't want a side by side double but someone recommended out n about. I did my research and I can say its the best thing Ive ever brought. I folds up much better than jane power twin did and fits in my boot. Wheels have quick release so can be taken on and off really easily. I can push it with one hand and its so easy on all terrains. I love it.

Have you though about a maclaren double?!
