Drop-side cot beds - advice please

Hi I'm stocking up for the arrival of my 1st. Almost got a cot from mothercare when DH suddenly came out with "why don't we get a cot bed". And he thinks if we get one with a drop-side mechanism it's gonna be so much better for my back. Thing is, there's no way I'm paying more than £150-170 for a cotbed, and the drop-side ones in this range all seem to have a one-handed mechanism. I'm a bit apprehensive as 1) what will stop the baby from dislodging a one-point stopper, 2) isn't it likely to break easily?
Has anyone used the one-handed drop sides? Any problems?
Also, i personally think cotbeds are a bit of a waste of money bc if we're gonna have a 2nd child (and I hope we are), the 1st one will have to be moved to a proper bed long before it outgrows the cotbed, so wouldn't it be wiser to get a cot which is cheaper (not to mention there's more choice with 2-handed drop-side cots and there are even some with a foot-and-hand mechanism).
BUT dh seems adamant we're getting a cot bed
Ideas please?

We have never used the drop side on our cotbed - it takes too long. We just lean over and put the baby in.

It's up to you how you sort things out when number 2 comes along, but FWIW we have two cotbeds, one for each child. DC1 just wasn't ready for a bed by the time I had DC2 and it's great that he's still safely penned in. They both share a room now and there's more space for playing having them both in shorter beds.

I have a drop-side cotbed from M&P's - I really wanted the drop-side because I'm short and in case I had a C-section that might make it painful for me to bend over. I found I didn't really need it until the base was dropped to its lowest level but its still been useful and I'm glad we got this feature. I'm not familiar with a one-handed drop mechanism but I don't know what harm there would be if the baby manages to dislodge it?

DD1 used it until she was 3 or so, then there was a break of about 9mths until DD2 needed it and she will probably stay in it after we take the sides off until she's 5 or 6 at least so we will get about 8 yrs use out of it for two children which is pretty good value for money.
