OK, I give up - can someone just tell me what pushchair to get?

I've had internet reviews until they're coming out of my ears. I know people get passionate about prams (am looking at best friend in particular, you know who you are) - but I seem to have been born without the gene, so...

Does anyone have a pushchair that...

a) Has adjustable handles (as name implies, am a big tall girl)
b) Is a travel system with

  • a car seat which goes onto a stand (although I promise I won't use it often)
  • a pram for when they're tiny
  • and a seat which can face both inwards and outwards
c) also doesn't drive them mad?

Thank you

We had the jane sport which does most of the above, it has a car seat that can click in and out, we also used the carrycot for when they were tiny, the handle is adjustable, but only the pram and car seat faces the 'pusher' once it changes to a push chair it faces outwards. We've been very happy with it , has lasted both ds' and is still going strong.
Hope you find what you are looking for.

I have a Hauck I'coo Infinity and a Mamas and Papas Skate, both of which do what you're looking for.

ConnorTraceptive · 11/04/2009 17:47

Another vote for hauck infinity. I love mine and like previous poster said it does everything you have mentioned

jellybeans · 11/04/2009 17:48

Britax Vigour or Hauck infinity

emmabemmasmom · 11/04/2009 18:06

I had the Quinny Buzz with my DD and loved it. I actually bought one second hand and loved it so much I went and got a new one a few months later in a different colour. You can use the car seat, carry cot and it faces both directions and fully reclines in forward facing and rear facing. Does everything you stated you wanted actually!

I loved it and my DD loved it...sad I had to get rid of it as were expecting #2 so getting a double

I love my Silvercross Classic Sleepover, my 13 month old is still as comfortable in there now as she was as a tiny baby.
It's a pram that lies flat, and then transforms into a pushchair as the baby gets bigger. It faces either rear or forwards. The car seat fits on to the chassis. It even comes with a moses rocking base, my daughter slept in it at night until she was 6 months old.
The handle is adjustable, I'm 5 ft 3 and my husband is 6 ft 3, it's great for both of us.
It's a lovely sturdy pram and worth every penny we paid for it. It is fairly heavy (the chassis, but we went for the larger one of the two chassis choices), but I still manage to carry it up and down the stairs of my maisonette with no trouble.

Thanks guys. Pebbles - I noticed you replaced your Infinity. Did it not last that long? Because I read a review of it (after reading your post) and the reviewer said it was OK for a bit and then the screws started coming out! Has anyone who's recommended the Infinity had it for a while? Was that reviewer just unlucky do we think?

Checking out all the others now - thanks for all your recommendations

Second the Britax vigour, does everything you ask for. It is not mind blowingly expensive and is funky enough without being one of the fashionable ones iykwim.

ConnorTraceptive · 11/04/2009 22:17

I've had my infinity for a year and it's still in excellent condition. I bought it without seeing it in the flesh as it were based on seeing so many positive recomendtions on MN

twinklytoes · 11/04/2009 22:32

I'm tall too and went for the bebecar mcity. have loved it with ds1 but it doesn't go in the car well. have loved the carrycot mode and just about to put the rear facing seat unit on. (don't have car seat but there is one)

have also had the mothercare urban detour travel system - think that comes with carrycot now.

but ultimatley, you end up with the maclaren XT or XLR when they hit 6mths.

was recommended the britax and am looking at that now as want a new pushchair. check out the argos catalogue too - I was amazed at the variety of higher handle height pushchairs they have now.

nicolamumof3 · 11/04/2009 22:37

m&p switch?

bug bee?

but do tend to agree with twinklytoes, bet you end up with a mac by the end of the firs t 6m-a year!!

ilovemydogandMrObama · 11/04/2009 22:38

Bugaboo - just bite the bullet and get one.

horsemadgal · 12/04/2009 08:58

Yep, get a Bugaboo. Only one that does all that and doesn't weigh a tonne.

pebbles79 · 12/04/2009 11:27

No, I still have my Infinity, have had it over a year now - it's my longest running pram by far, lol! I absolutely love it! The only problem I've had is with one of the wheels but the customer service at Hauck is fab and even if out of warranty or bought second hand they're prices are very reasonable if you have to replace anything.

Northernlurker · 12/04/2009 19:00

People are born without the pram gene? Tis not possible!

My pram does everything you want but it's a Bugaboo and if you are taking it in and out of a car a lot I fear it might get a bit wearing?

I tend to think that Silvercross is a good bet, also Britax. Really the best thing to do is look at what car seat you want and then see where that leaves you with the pram rather than fall in love with a pram and find out that the car seat that comes with doesn't fit in your car.

elvislives · 12/04/2009 19:06

Second vote for the SilverCross. DD is now 2 and still comfy in hers.

littlelamb · 12/04/2009 19:07

I've had a bugaboo and a britax vigour 4+. I would say that although I think the Bugaboo does look much sleeker, I prefer the Britax. I is really light to push, which I didn't expect as the wheels are rubber rather than air filled, but that has the added bonus that I don't have to worry about punctures when I see broken glass. I like that rather than 3 fixed positions you cna have the Birtax at any angle (the flat position on the Bugaboo actually tilts slightly at the head end, which I didn't like at all). The only thing I don't like about the Vigour is the rivets in the inside of the hood. If ds is hungry he tries to suck it and when he falls asleep his head rests against it which means he is left with an imprint on his head. Having said that, I don't really rate the bugaboo hood either, but for different reasons. I'd go for the Britax and spent the rest of the money on chocolate wine

nicm · 12/04/2009 23:07

my teutonia spirit s3 does all of that. i can sympathise as i spent 16 weeks trying to decide on which pram to get!! still use it every day 1 year on!

Longtalljosie · 13/04/2009 10:39

Thanks everyone, that's saved me a heap of work...

Those of you who are saying, "just get a Bugaboo" - which one? Or is it so much of a lifestyle choice that it really doesn't matter which one?

Bumperlicioso · 13/04/2009 10:42

Quinny Buzz

Northernlurker · 13/04/2009 10:43

Boo!

The Cameleon has the adjustable handle bar, not sure about the others.

website here

EasterEggsintheSky · 13/04/2009 10:49

Buzzy buzzy Bee. Bugaboo that is. Don't bother with the awful clunky Chameleon, go straight for the little one. DD looks so cosy lying down asleep in it. I'm two weeks into mine and I love it. Am even considering selling my Apple

coolkat · 13/04/2009 10:51

Another vote for the Britax Vigour. I 'think' now they have a new version out and you can use the seat unit from birth whereas I had to use a carrycot. Reasonably priced, smooth to push, forward and rear facing and the car seat fits on the frame.

One other thing to bear in mind in that some car seats have a base in the car so you just clip them on rather than strappng the whole thing in IYSWIM. We now have the Britax base and it makes life so much easier!

IneedAbetterNickname · 14/04/2009 02:07

Another vote for silvercross sleepover, though I have the linear chassis!

madameovary · 14/04/2009 02:28

I have the Bugaboo Bee and it's brilliant. The baby nest is perfect for when they are tiny, it lies flat and has the reversible seat unit, adjustable handle, can be pushed one handed and can be lifted/carried with DD in it and she is one. It costs the earth but you can always sell it afterwards.
