Is there a recognised age/developement stage for baby's to be measured for their first pair of shoes.

babies should learn to walk bare foot (it's better for their feet) so i'd say after they start walking.

LuluisgoingtobeanAunty · 07/04/2009 14:44

Thats what I thought!

I was told years ago by a Clarks shoe fitter that their criteria was that a child should be able to walk the length of a room, turn around and walk back without falling over and I've always stuck to that.

Problem is baby has returned from her contact session with her parents with new shoes and a photo from Clarks of her in her first shoes.

She is 15 months old and has not even stood up/cruised furniture yet.

Are they likely to hurt her feet? I don't want to upset them so I'm unsure whats for the best here.

a pair of Jammy Chews

CantSleepWontSleep · 07/04/2009 14:55

Clarks really shouldn't have sold them to her. She should have been walking unaided for 6 weeks or thereabouts before she has first shoes.

Cruising shoes are ok before then though. Are you sure that that's not what they are?

Flower3545 · 07/04/2009 14:57

They are proper quite solid shoes, the photo is marked 'my size....two and a half F

My DD is 12 months old and she has a pair of shoes. They are Clarks cruising shoes. If we go for a walk outside, she wears them and she will walk if her hands are being held. She cannot walk alone yet.

I believe Clarks sell crawling shoes, cruising shoes and walking shoes. If the baby is crawling, crawling shoes will not hurt her. They are not necessary, but they will not hurt her either.

Flower3545 · 07/04/2009 15:04

Just had a look on the Clarks site, they are cruising shoes called India Shimmer.

Thanks everyone.

This link shows all the crawling shoes at clarks in size 2 1/2:

And this link shows the cruising shoes in size 2 1/2

x post, sorry.

My DD has those ones and they are very soft and have not hurt her. She likes walking outside in them.

nicolamumof3 · 07/04/2009 16:39

My two youngest wore cruisers as soon as they could 'cruise' as wanted to get out of buggy at park etc. and in winter was better to have their feet protected. perfectly ok.

Flower3545 · 07/04/2009 16:52

I think the point I am concerned about is that she's isn't walking or cruising or even standing on her own and if this would cause her feet any harm.

nicolamumof3 · 07/04/2009 16:55

they are still very soft can't see any harm to her feet tbh.

Have you tried Inchblue Leather Shoes or Shoo Shoos. I have used them on my DS . They're cute soft leather shoes which are washable.

There are several places you can get them. I know www.koochycoo.com do a good range of them, and also funkymoose.co.uk.

xx
