I want a cotton bouncy chair.

I have only seen one in Mothercare but its got reviews saying that the incline is too steep and a baby fell out. So where else can I get one? I just want plain nothing fancy. The reason for the cotton is previously DS has a plush one that was polyester and he sweated for England in it.

i had the spotty one from mothercare and thought it was fine. Wasn't too steep in my opinion but baby was only in it for shortish periods of time, eg, when i had a bath - and with me watching him.

I much preferred it to the vastly expensive one i had for ds1 from mamas and papas.

i had one from mothercare and it was fine.
a baby wouldn't just fall out if it was strapped in, unless it was moving around.

my son tipped his over, but that was because I put him in it when he was able to sit up and he leaned all the way forward. I would be very doubtful that a small baby could just fall out, no matter how steep the incline was.

anyway, most baby places sell them. I think argos has one, kiddicare, babies r us... all the usual suspects!

KingRolo · 06/04/2009 19:37

I have the spotty MC one too and it was fine until dd could sit up on her own. Very good value for money at £10 too.

I got one for £2.50 from an NCT sale - it is cotton and the fabric bit comes off to go in the washing machine.

He is 6 months now and can sit up (but falls over without support) so I only ever put him in it now if he is tired and likely to nap or he will lean forwards in it. He doesn't fall out but I think he might be able to soon so will be putting it away in the next couple of weeks I think.

Thanks for your opinions but the reviews really put me off the mothercare one:

Pistachio is that one cotton it doesn't say on the website?

I would wonder though if people who had problems were putting too old babies in the chairs.

yes, it is too steep. I even took it apart to see if it was set up wrongly.

i got it so i could put dd2 in it while i was in the bath. at around 10 wks she also tipped over in it.

I was a bouncy chair idiot at the time and thought it was maybe because i had it unbalaced by mistake.

I later bought the 'identical' bouncy chair in the UAE - minus the plasticy backing so it can be washed, on the cotton and the incline is a lot less severe.

i think MC is pulling a fast one in the UK now to put people off buying the cheap but better bouncy chair.

foxytocin · 07/04/2009 08:58

no tracey, definitely a substantial difference in the pitch of these chairs.

traceybath · 07/04/2009 11:46

i bought mine gosh about 18 months ago and as i said it was fine - perhaps they've changed them since then . . .

shame as its so reasonable and also pretty but hey if its not safe . . .

still looking for recommendations

i think the recommendation was to go to a nearly new sale.

there doesn't seem to be enough money in selling the cheaper ones from the stores' POV. otherwise they'd be out there.

In fact, I was thinking this morning to complain to Trading Standards about the one that MC is selling at the moment.

I bought the cheap one from MC 6 months ago and at 10 wks my daughter fell over face first in it. I now have a second one, bought a week later but in Abu Dhabi. I told DH that the pitch of them are different. Lo and Behold the one from AD has arrived and it is very different.

I think that MC is looking to have parents who buy the cheap one, quickly upgrade to the horrible cushiony ones. they are awful IMO.

MaryAnnSailors · 09/04/2009 09:53

I got a similar one to this as a present and it was fab. It folds flat also and great design.

littlelamb · 09/04/2009 09:56

foxy, there's two in mothercare that should be removed from sale imo. the really cheapy one is virtually upright, and there's a bear one I got for ds that I ended up taking back as the safety strap didn't even go over his thighs. I emailed their head office to say that imo it was unsafe and heard nothing back.

foxytocin · 09/04/2009 10:15

since i now have 2, i will take photos of them side by side and face on.

KingRolo · 09/04/2009 11:12

God, I'm shocked to read this thread as I have that chair (the mothercare spotty one - £12ish?) and didn't have any problems. Maybe I have just been lucky. I thought I was being all sensible and economical buying a cheap one and not sucumbing to the 'new-mum- must-have-everything-huge-padded-rocking-shiny-etc-etc' thing!

foxytocin · 09/04/2009 11:17

don't be king rollo. i bought this one cause dd1's nursery uses this style and i have seen how practical and safe they are should be.

UpSinceCrapOClock · 09/04/2009 11:20

I second the Baby Bjorn bouncy chair (Dd still likes sitting in it to watch telly sometimes, and she's almost 3!) Plus love that it folds flat (we live in a flat so lack of space is a big issue) and it is very sturdy. A good investment (and I'm not normally a Baby Bjorn fan - don't like their carrier at all for example).

staryeyed · 09/04/2009 11:45

Thanks for the NCT suggestion but Im not looking for a cheap chair just a fully cotton one for reasons explained. It would have to be new as my mum is buying it and she doesn't do second hand.

The baby bjorn one looks very nice but its polyester and cotton mix I don't know if that would still be sweaty.

UpSinceCrapOClock · 09/04/2009 12:01

Just checked ours and it's 100% cotton. We have this one

staryeyed · 09/04/2009 12:08

Oh thanks very much that looks perfect. How do you find it?

OP posts:
LilyBolero · 09/04/2009 12:10

The baby bjorn one is amazing - I got it for ds2 and it was a true revelation! He loved it for months!

staryeyed · 09/04/2009 12:11

Sorry Maryannsailors I've just realised its the same one you linked to.
