How can I fit 3 under fives in to a car?

DC3 is due in DEcember by which time DD1 will be 4.3 and DD2 will be 2.10, they're both quite small so will both be in the seats they're in now (Britax first class and Concord Ultimax (not that colour though!)). We have a Skoda Octavia estate and there isn't space for a little infant carrier type in the back between the two seats we already have so I don't know what to do!

We might have to change the car but really don't want a people carrier if we can help it and DH refuses to buy certain car makes (Peugeot, Renault, Citroen, Fiat).

Soooooo, what do you suggest?

ah i didnt realise one was a rearfacer,
oh yup i wud put it in the middle then if it fits and an argos one on either side for the bigger 2,
can you measure the gap between the 2 seats atm,do you think you would fit a highback booster in the middle?
one good point is that you wouldnt have the hassle of doing up the seatbelts each time you go out(which you would hav with a stage 3 seat) as they will all have harnesses, and the first stage seat will be staying in the car too, much less faffing,

I had this problem a number of years ago. We fitted restraint straps like the ones you get on a carseat in the middle back seat and sat DS on a booster seat. Is that an option?

lol, some are really wide but some are not,
we had 2 different stage 2 seats, and to look at them they looked a silimar size, but when they were fitted, one was about 10cm wider than the other!

mears do you mean you fitted them yourself?or had them fitted somewhere?

mears · 05/04/2009 17:35

It takes a little while to download so have patience. It is also Australian which I didn't realise at first but I am sure you can still get them here.

We bought the harness and DH fitted it I think (was 18 years ago!)

sazm · 05/04/2009 17:51

hmm, i didnt think that would be legal?

mears · 05/04/2009 17:52

What, the fitting or the harness itself? Came with instructions I am sure. DH ofetn does work on the car - very handy that way.

Don't think it is illegal if you know what you are doing.

sazm · 05/04/2009 17:59

just the fact its not a known restraint, that sounds like a scary make do device to me lol,
if theres room for a basic booster then surely theres room for a high backed booster?

mears · 05/04/2009 18:40

Well there wasn't in our car because the wideth of the top of 3 chairs combined was too big for the back seat.

The booster base fitted but in those days (18 years ago remember), there wasn't a diagonal seat belt, only a lap strap. The harness was very much more secure.
Probably sperceded now with more modern cars and new rules from 2006, but I liked having DS1 held securely with the harness on the back seat.
DH got it from Halfords.

Amazing the changes when time moves on...........
