We've got one of these, DS actually likes wearing it.

We went for cheap nylon ones rather then the expensive leather ones which DH decided were too 'dog lead' like. Don't be tempted to play and swing the child on them, as they soon realise they can pick both their feet up at the same time which means you can't use the reins if you want a walk to take a reasonable time!

And still hold their hand and make them stop and look at at the roadside so they get into good habits.

do you think the ruck sack variety is ok for a little one who is 13.5 months- been walking for 6 weeks, and pretty steady, but wonder if the bag on his back might make him topple over?! Like the rucksack idea thou although perhaps for when he is a bit older, and plain reins for now..

reins do mean you can catch them when they trip, stops them hitting the floor so hard (or at all), so prob better than the bag for a very young child.

We have the back pack for dd2 but i would say they are better for 2-4 year olds.

We use the simple mothercare ones - easier to throw in the wash aswell. When he is bigger we will use the rucksack but at 14m I need him to learn to hold my hand aswell as having something to grab onto when he lets go. I tuck the long strap into the back so it doesn't dangle and then just grab it if I need to.

great thank you! now just need to decide on whether to go posh leather or practical nylon ones that are washable.
