IKEA antilop high chair - anyone got one?

I have read the reviews on here and it sounds as though it fits the bill - cheap, plain design and functional.

Anyone got any positive / negative experiences?

Thank you!

We have one at my parents' house; it's great and dd only just growing out of it at 2.5

Points to note:
it has wide splayed legs that you can - and will - trip over.

The version we have doesn't have a removable tray, so they can't really sit with you at the table, but there may be an updated model.

It's quite light, so the child (when not in it) can pull it over if they try to climb on it. I think this is only relevant for us because our main highchair is much heavier and sturdier and dd is used to climbing all over it, and then gets into trouble when she tries to climb on the antilop.

I have one for visitors and it is great. Ours has a removable tray, so goes right up to the table, and is pretty stable.

Easy to transport as the legs come off

I second the tripping over the legs, we had one very similar from Ikea (basically a wooden version minus the tray. It was fantastic(was kept at ILs house). However position it at a place on the table where nobody needs to walk around as we all have on many occasions tripped over the legs!

Apart from that it was a great buy.

I've got three - one at home, one at my mothers and one hidden in PIL's cupboard in their holiday flat! I love them and couldn't use any other high chair.

Is fabulous.

Only not got it as main highchair as it doesn't look v pretty in our living room (showing flat for viewings etc). But looks fine in a kitchen IMO.

And yes, great for keeping in car too (you can buy the tray separately).

I've only ever had the Antilop - although DS is now 2 and refuses to sit at any high chair so now uses a kiddies table and chair.

Never had any issues with it apart from the tray broke after yanking it off a few months back. But I replaced it for less than £3 to use it for the next kid, so no issue with that. Never tripped over it either. Plus I was able to use it at the breakfast bar with one of those chair raiser things when he got a bit older.

Easy to clean. Stable. Portable. Only issue is that my model only has a lap restraint, i.e not 5 point harness. Dont konow if they chainged that or not.

Umlellala · 31/03/2009 15:02

oh, and i am not a fan of the way the legs dangle... but for £15 you can't really complain, can you?

bluebump · 31/03/2009 15:04

I really love ours, it's very easy to clean, I just took it out in the garden yesterday and hosed it off because DS had made such a mess of it!

Our has a detatchable tray and we got the inflatable insert too as DS is skinny.

blondiep14 · 31/03/2009 15:05

We have one at home and one at the GP's - utterly fab for the money but don't think the tripping over the legs issue is exaggerated!

KingRoloEgg · 31/03/2009 17:29

Thanks everyone - that's all really useful. I think we'll get one then!
