Ok, talk to me about mug storage!

I only have three cupboards in my kitchen, and one is entirely mugs, which is getting on my nerves. I always knock mug trees over and smash the mugs-is there any other alternative? Kitchen counter space v v tight, but may be able to put something on top of the dishwasher.

Thank you!!

You could put a row of hooks along the bottom of your cabinets - either underneath or on the deco strip at the front.
But do you need enough mugs to fill a whole cupboard?

brimfull · 31/03/2009 12:36

I have screwed in two ikea stainless steel rails and used hooks to hand them up underneath the wall cupboards.

clayre · 31/03/2009 12:37

i got rid of all the mugs we didnt use, we are now left with a cupboard of mismatched ones as no one used the ones that matched the plates etc. cupboard is much less cluttered

Oooh I love the Kroken ggirl. I have a lot of mugs, not because I need them all, but they are memory mugs . I have got ones from my Cambridge college, cambridge union, ones I have been given by firms, mum's two fave mugs, nice glass coffee mugs. I also have about 10 little after dinner coffee cups that have been handed down and are unstackable (I love the fact we have ancient dinner service but I am a 23 year old student with a 5 year old-it just takes up much needed SPACE and I have never once had someone over for dinner-they never come when invited !)

You need to weed your mugs to one shelf full. Box up the rest wrapped in newspaper to surprise you nostalgically in the future. (Student mugs have survived 20 years in this house!) Also put away the wee coffee cups somewhere safe.

Nontoxic · 31/03/2009 12:54

Agree with Blithedance - and if bear in mind that if you've got this much 'memory stuff' at 23 you'll be snowed under with clutter by the time you reach my advanced age.

Could you get some sort of display cabinet and put some on show somewhere? (But only the ones that are genuinely attractive).

brimfull · 31/03/2009 13:17

Hang five mugs up and store the rest away.
