Teeny pram for bus trips

spikemomma · 29/03/2009 20:51

Can you recommend a tiny, lighweight stroller which would work on bus trips, for my 18m old?

Need it to take up as little space as possible, but without it being a mare to drive.

Basically i'm going to try using the bus for the school run.

Petit zia star I think thats is what its called they are tiny .

differentEggD · 29/03/2009 20:52

something like the Maclaren volo maybe?

Housemum · 29/03/2009 21:06

Another vote for the Volo - not great for long days out as doesn't recline, but I used it for DD2 going to/from London on trains/buses/tubes, and am going to buy another for DD3 as wore out last one. Can fold/unfold one-handed, and it has a shoulder strap too. Similar but with recline is Silver Cross Fizz, but it's 2lb heavier. Volo is lightest on the market.

Volo every time! Easy to fold, cheap as chips or maclaren triumph (though I don't like them, have a new one I don't like!!) but similar to fold and sling over your shoulder. My dd is 2.2 and very tall and heavy yet the volo is a breeze to push. Don't let the small wheels put you off!!

The idea would be to fold it up when on the bus, sling over my shoulder with a strap and then unfold and leg it to school. As i will be running late on most days...

Silver cross fizz is nice and light and has a shoulder strap too, only costs about 65 pounds too.

i've been looking at the quinny zapp for this use, folds very small (can fit in overhead locker on a plane) and i prefer 3 wheelers. i know it doesn't recline and basket is an extra. Has anyone any comments on it?

PrammyMammy · 29/03/2009 23:20

I have a zapp too, handles are quite low down, so a pain if you are tall, and it doesn't push on stones, so a pain if you need to go to the park or something. Good for travel though. You get a handy bag with it and it fits in hand luggage on the plane.

gigglechick · 29/03/2009 23:21

quinny zapp, though you can't hang anything on the handles which is a pita.

luckylady74 · 29/03/2009 23:22

My mothercare one was £15 reduced to £10 in the sale and is essentially a hammock on 2 sticks, but the brakes work and it's lasted 2 yrs so far. I can pick it up with 1 hand easily - it weighs next to nothing.

EyeballsintheSky · 29/03/2009 23:23

I have a Moon Kiss which I think is the same as a Zia and it folds up to almost invisible. No shoulder strap though, be great if there was. But it reclines and is very comfy for 14mo dd.

spikemomma · 29/03/2009 23:24

also, the wheel base of the zapp took up more space than i thought - had a crush on that one years ago (tragic). that's why i was thinking of something more 'thin'. oh lord, what am i like. but you know what i mean. i don't want to get heckled whilst wrestling on the bus with two kids and a pram. help me! i'll love you forever if you find me the perfect solution!

ami - I love mine because it folds so small, we've used it for around 18mo and dd who is now 3yo still fits in it beautifully. I tend to carry a rucksack around anyway, so it is no hardship if you get your head around not hanging anything more than a pram blanket on the handles.
The raincover that comes with it is an extremely tight fit, and I hear of lots of folk who have had trouble with that, although I haven't. You can get a cosytoes separately and it is the biggest and cosiest one we've ever had. again, dd still fits in it. On the whole the pure convenience of it outweigh the couple of negatives - namely that it doesn't recline, but has a deep seat and a toddler can get comfy to doze in it anyway. we have a neck cushion if we know that the little one is going to fall asleep.

spikemomma · 29/03/2009 23:42

umm quinny does look appealing though... and the volo... i saw a strange one in green baby a while back, which was meant to be realy light. anyone have any idea what that one was? can't find it.

The name might come to me - do you mean one that sort of goes inward IYSWIM?

Zapp - aren't these the ones you have to almost dismantle to put in the bag? A friend had a Quinny one that was a doddle to manoeuvre but she swapped for a Volo as she couldn't be bothered with the faff of folding it.

Housemum · 30/03/2009 00:48

Was the weird one a Safety First Surf stroller? Just had a look at Which online for pushchairs under 5kg.

naomi83 · 30/03/2009 08:02

we have a bebe confort vit, weight same as volo, very easy fold, although nto very skinny, and you can push it one handed.

pebbles79 · 30/03/2009 08:36

I don't think the Zapp is all that easy to fold although it does fold small.

Housemum · 30/03/2009 12:58

Like the look of the Bebe Confort - do you know any shops as opposed to internet that sell it as would love to try first?

Housemum · 30/03/2009 17:47

Quick question re bebe confort - can you use it on escalators OK? Have no trouble with MacLaren but wouldn't attempt M&P Pliko. (And yes I know I shouldn't do it...)

naomi83 · 30/03/2009 18:22

no, i wouldn't use it on escalators as it's too narrow, but it's so light you can hold the child and the buggy at the same time. i think they might be discontinued now (we ought ours 1.5 years ago, still going strong) but worth checking on ebay

nicolamumof3 · 30/03/2009 18:41

volo!
i just got mine today and it is so basic and light will be fab for that boy my boys are currently fighting over who's sitting in it!!!

i've had a zapp and wouldn't recommend it for bus trips as its a two handed fold no good when trying to restrain an 18m you can do the volo whilst holding your lo's hand.

Housemum · 30/03/2009 20:07

in what way too narrow - the Volo is pretty narrow but I just plonk the front 2 wheels on and stand a couple of steps back holding it (or back 2 if going down)

spikemomma · 30/03/2009 21:50

sorry i have been missing. children. love 'em... anyway, oohhh that bebe confort contraption looks crazy! i like it though! never seen it before. i defo need one that folds up very easily with almost no hands (dream on!), so the zapp is out. housemum, i'm not sure about the green baby one, i'm still hunting it down, i think it did sort of fold in though - looked a bit flimsy from a distance.
