Help me find rear facing pushchair to push one handed

bojangles · 29/03/2009 18:53

I am going slightly mad surfing the internet trying to find the perfect buggy for DD3 (age 4 months). I really want rear facing and it needs to be light as it will be going in and out of car. It needs to push one handed as I want to hold DD1's hand on school run plus it needs to take a buggy board for ds age 2! Hours of research keep leading me back to the bugaboo but I am a bit horrified at the price. But if it would fit the brief then I might be able to persuade DH. I currently have baby in an ergo sling and use a maclaren XT for DS but my back isn't great and DS really wants to walk more.

Can anyone help or offer any other suggestions?

Loola Up or maybe a quinny buzz ?

littlelamb · 29/03/2009 18:57

Britax Vigour. I love mine (I also carry ds in Ergo when I'm not using it). I pushed my friends ancient stroller today and my god my back aches because of it. Vigour is probably the lightest I've pushed, but I'm not sure it folds up nicely for the car.

bojangles · 29/03/2009 19:00

quick replies - thank you. Not to keen on the loola and think buzz looks a bit modern. Vigour an option as have britax car seat so could use as travel system.

Will investigate weights and measurements.

bugaboo shit one-handed... the quinny buzz is looooooads better.

littlelamb · 29/03/2009 19:02

Ah, have just seen you looked at the Bugaboo. I had a Cameleon when ds was born but I sold it as I just couldn't justify the expense. I would sya there's not really much difference between the vigour and the bugaboo, and if anything the seat seems much more comfy in the Britax (the Cameleon tips back just a bit too much at the head end when it is supposedly lying flat)

naomi83 · 29/03/2009 19:24

sorry to gatecrash the thread but does the vigour sit very upright or do toddlers have to pull themselves forward? also, what's the canopy/ sun protection like?

littlelamb · 29/03/2009 19:51

The good thing about the vigour is that you can have it in ANY position, not just 2 or 3 like other buggies, so can be dead upright if you want. The bar is removable, but it also 'wiggles' I don't know how to describe it really, it can be pulled to make it closer to them iyswim. Hood is a good size, but can leave the seat exposed if it's fuly reclined so I will use a shade when it gets really sunny.

I have a Loola Up, it's great

Floatylight · 29/03/2009 20:03

Sorry forgot to add steering is excellent with one hand

I navigated the whole of John Lewis on a Saturday one-handed as the other hand held all the bags, the steering was fabulous.

That's the trade-off though - because the handle bar goes straight across it makes steering a doddle however you don't have seperate handles to park all your shopping bags on

There are tiny hooks for the change bag which will take one carrier each though

HTH

Stokke is easy to push one handed. But is more pricey than a Bugaboo and does not really get very small when folded down.

coolkat · 29/03/2009 20:24

Another vote for Britax Vigour, we have the 3 wheeler and very easy to push one handed. Not sure about buggy board bit though!

sazm · 29/03/2009 20:29

i had a nurse hello it was great, easy to push, even with the buggyboard on it,

Umlellala · 29/03/2009 20:34

This is the exact same search I have been on...

The iCandy Cherry was fab - but folds in two parts. Currently have a Buzz which doesn't fold together rear-facing but is amazingly easy to push and steer - and much smaller than you'd think... BUT heavy for the car. Do love the Buzz but slightly regret not buying 5inthebed's Chicco for Me (think she is still selling) - it folds up, though not tiny, but is a rearfacing stroller. Looks a good alternative to the Bee. I had a brilliant old Mamas and Papas stroller but dh wouldn't use it cos it was too shabby

Youtube has loads of videos of different prams...

ConnorTraceptive · 29/03/2009 20:57

Hauck Infinity is FAB. I love mine

bojangles · 29/03/2009 21:06

britax looks big for folding and quite heavy for using in the car. I lkie the look of the jane nurse - does it take a buggy board?

will look again later once I settle DD who is v unhappy tonight!

Bugaboo Bee fits the bill I think - rear facing, light, easy to push one handed. I love mine and would def recommend. It's £350 but you'd get a decent price if you sold it on once you'd done with it.

Ceolas · 29/03/2009 21:11

I like my vigour too but I wouldn't like to be lifting it in and out of the car every day. Ours lives in the hall cupboard. It's not massive but lots bigger than an umbrella fold naturally.

I haven't used one, but the buggy board website says it should fit.

Umlellala · 29/03/2009 21:16

Chicco for me

or Streety?

Bugaboo Bee doesn't take a buggy board, I think? Too light or something?

mololoko · 29/03/2009 21:27

i love my vigour 3+! it's not the trendiest buggy around but it's not too heavy, VERY manouverable and dead easy to push one handed (whilst lugging along an aged dog on a lead as well). it's very easy to fold up and down (you can leave the pushchair bit on the frame when folding) and isn't too big.

bojangles · 29/03/2009 21:34

bee doesn't look like it would take a buggy board though - the pramaholic in me wants me to NEED a bugaboo! Def last baby so could justify indulging!!

dimensions of the nurse jane look big too - am off to compare with gecko measurements.

bojangles · 29/03/2009 21:39

looked at the chicco and not certain I like it - have heard many say you can't push a streety one handed and it is heavy to steer. I will see if I can find somewhere to look at them.

OP posts:
sazm · 29/03/2009 21:44

yep the nurse hello takes the 3G buggyboard,it sits really close to the frame too so you dont trip over it,
its quite compact folded and the rear wheels click off easy if you need them to,

bojangles · 29/03/2009 21:47

Thanks Sazm - Nurse sounds good - can you fold it with set unit on? Is the seat unit shaped liked a buzz or can it lie flat? Thanks

lisad123 · 29/03/2009 21:51

i'd go bugaboo bee, light easy to steer and easy to fold rearfacing.

Umlellala · 29/03/2009 21:55

Go and try loads out! If you are gonna get a Bee, get one now as they are small.

IMO the perfect pram just doesn't exist. It's been driving me mad!
