Rear facing buggy for a toddler

DS is 14mo, mostly carried in the sling but getting a bit heavy to do naps as well as trips to town (in the same day). His auntie (and sometimes I, for example when icy) uses a nice basic stroller, but its from her now 6yo DD and is getting a bit run down.

I don't like using the pushchair because I am used to having DS right in front of me and we chat a lot. Its just not the same when he's facing away from me so if/when I replace the stroller I'd like a rear facing one, but they're so expensive.

So before I start a search for a nice second hand one, does anyone have recommendations for one that will see DS through to when he's walking well?

A secondary requirement would be for me to be able to add a car seat for a hypothetical second baby that would be worn in a sling most of the time. I don't particuarly want a from birth pushchair (I can carry 26lb DS so I think I can manage a newborn )

You need suspension and air tyres and a good sized seat, an Quinny Buzz with the 2 sized seats would be my best suggestion.

I liked the Vigour. I had a three wheeler but they also come as 4 wheeler.

Some folks like the Hauck Infinity.

Also the Bebe Confort Streety which is perhaps the most stroller-like and can be gotten cheap second hand or through BabyValue ebay shop.

How mobile is your ds?

I bought a rear facing buggy when dd was just under 1, which i regret as dd was walking well by 18 months and was in and out of the buggy and wanted to climb in and ut heerself which meant i used my forward facing buggy as seat units are lower

i didnt sling past a year though, well done on carrying him still!

My ds is 9 months but 21 lb and off the scale for height so not a huuuge difference. I carry him most of the time in our ergo but we got a second hand Britax Vigour 4 and have been really happy with it. I thought that not having air tyres would make it heavy but it's not, and it means I'm not constantly watching out for broken glass on the floor. I would say the seat unit is a fair size, and it has an adjustable leg rest that can be folded right down when he is bigger. Might be worth a look? Mine was only £60, and it's like new. Fwiw, we don't drive so do all of our food shopping on foot and the basket looks small but I can fit a weeks worth of shopping in it easily. I don't have the car seat, but the Birtax one from birth slots on very easily, and you can get a carrycot if you need it for another baby too.

I have the icandy cherry, which Ive had since ds (18mo) birth. I still use it rear facing, which we both enjoy.
It cost around £250, which, yes, is a bit pricey, but I intend to use it for a while yet, so for price per use sort of thing, its paid for itself really.
Or try freecycle. My neice has just got a rear facing quinny on there (jammy cow ).
Oh, you can also add the maxi-cosi car seat to either to make travel system.

Bugaboo is great, rear facing and takes a maxi cosi car seat, one of the safest with isofix so a great buy.

I had a Baby Style Cyclone 2nd hand, think the Britax Vigour is the same p/chair.
LOVE it. Not a car pushchair though, mine stayed up in the garage when not in use - only went in the car if we were driving somewhere for a country walk.

A back carry and a wheeled shopping trolley?

ChairmumMiaow · 29/03/2009 15:29

thanks for the suggestions. Am corrently in the car on my phone while DS sleeps so apologies for any typos!

I'll take a look on ebay later for the different ones.
DH suggested it I am struggling with naps ovt and about I should stay home for naps more often which generally means never leaving the house till 12 as he's a morning napper.

I have been experimenting with back carries but can't get the kindercoat on over DSl! (and I just couldn't bring myself to wheel one of those little trollies around!)

oh and although he walks well holding a hand he's not doing it unaided yet so I have no idea how long I would use it for

i have had an inglesina outtoto which would do everything you want, including being able to be pushed with one hand. folds reasonably small and can take a huggy car seat. Expensive new but you could prob get a second hand one for £100 ish if you look around, they are rear facing as long as you need. my little one is 16 months and very tall, i am sure it will last her until she is 3

ChairmumMiaow · 30/03/2009 11:02

the iCandy cherry does look lovely...

You could try the bebeconfort Loola, it can have a car seat attached too
