Mountain buggy terrain or urban? And terrain with zip hammock or recline back?

Does anyone have any advice on either or these?

I am keen on buying one for both town and park and off road walks. There seem to be advantages of both. The urban seems very wide, but the basket is big and the back rest is mean to be good.

Also anyone know how the recline backrest is on the terrain. Does the baby get bumped around a lot off road?

Any advice to help me choose would be great! Thank you!

Urban is great. I have both the doubel and single I love it so! seriously, I have only ever locked the front wheel in the snow, it handles great over rough terrain while walking the kids. it is recommended that you don't go too off road until your baby is 6mths for obvious reasons, but the seat is hammock style so absorbs a lot of the bumps. the urban is no wider than many other pushchairs, and can turn on a sixpence.

TBH you'd be best trying them out.

Not sure what you mean about the backrest. Just bought a Terrain, same style as our Petite Star Zia - just adjust the straps. Works very well.

As for the fixed wheel vs. swivel, I'd really want a day with each to tell you, the obvious thing to say about the Terrain is that it only goes in straight lines. And most daily walking is not in straight lines for very long.

To correct the line you can nudge it or to turn it more drastically you tilt it back so the front wheel comes off the ground and pivot it. It's not heavy or difficult, but it is something you need to do a lot.

I can't say how the Urban compares, whether the obvious disadvantage of the fixed wheel gives it much better ride, so it's hard to say whether it's better or not.

On the face of it the Urban is better, but then the Terrain has other reasons why I chose it, the sturdier (waterproof) canvas rather than fabric, the lighter weight, and the metal basket, which isn't going to rip like a fabric one would.

Go for the Urban. Unless all you do is serious off road walking you may as well have the advantage of the lockable swivel wheel, it does both off road and flat surfaces very well.

Personally I prefer the fabric of the regular Urban over the canvas of the Elite model. It just wipes clean with a damp cloth. The cotton canvas does feel nice but probably wouldn't clean up as well.

I find the fabric basket of the Urban v sturdy (and roomy). Well, mine still looks like new anyway!

Whichever model you go for I would strongly recommend puncture proofing the tyres with anti puncture tape. Never had a flat tyre in two years with pretty hard use, it works for us!

I'm also a fan of the carrycot. My DS slept v comfortably in it and it faces you, something I really loved when he was small.

We had the urban and used it from 3 weeks - it was fab. The only times we fixed the wheel were when we were going over REALLY rough ground with large rocks - these tend to divert the swivel so you go the wrong way. Unless you want to do lots of this, there are big advantages of the urban - particularly that you don't have to push down on the handle to change direction. When you have a sturdy toddler (who has walked a fair way and now is collapsed in the buggy) you will find that you would be lifting quite a heavy weight to do this - the urban turns effortlessly whatever weight.

Ds found that the wheels gave such good cushioning that he thought we'd stopped if I pushed it over a flat pavement - so we had to go over the verges etc instead.

thank you for all your advice - much appreciated.

Do any of your find the urban too wide?
That is what is putting me off it at the moment. But am worried that a terrain might not fit in my VW golf boot (anyone know?!)

Thank you+++

We had a Polo - and had to put the back seat partially down, but that was because of the length, not the width. Rarely had any problems with width, and manoeuvrability made up for any drawbacks - you can litterally turn it on the spot with one hand. THe shop where we ordered ours allowed us to try the two shortlisted buggies out for size in the car - the Jane was even worse for fitting!

I have an urban and love it, but every time i go into town i wish i'd bought a terrain as the urban is just too wide. I even got stuck at the checkout in M&S the other week .

We used the carrycot for the first 3-6 months when out (they fit both) then swapped to the pushchair. My DD seems to like the off road bumps - it sends her to sleep.

They're both great though, so you really should try them both.

Been doing a bit of walking the last few days, at the farm park and in the woods. The terrain is ideal, it's more at home there than on the roads.

It does take up a lot of space in the boot. We have a Volvo S80, it fits, but the problem is the big wheels take up a lot of vertical space, so it almost occupies the whole height of the boot - it's not just a flat pack.

The wheels can be removed, but it's not something you'd want to do regularly.

Hello there, I am spending hours scouring the net to find a pram for all uses ( both shopping and running) and the urban jungle sounds like the best one. I noticed lucky 13 said they wished they'd bought the terrian as the urban was too wide but my understanding is that the urban jungle is the smaller of the two? Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks

Hi, I'm also wondering between the terrain and urban models, I need a stroller that is both good for the rough terrain in my yard/village and also for shopping in the city. I was about to buy a terrain but still wondering if it is too big? As also Yankonat is asking above - is it true that urban is bigger, looks the opposite. Tks for helping!
