the velcro has failed, they offered me £5 toward a new pair.
The shoes are perfect apart from a faied part, no I do not have the ruddy receipt, I have enough cack in my house without saviing evry bloody slip of paper.
There, I told them I would tell as many people as I could how rubbish their customer service is.
sitting in corner with arms folded froning and sulking

I always trash Clarkes shoes. How does velcro 'fail'? why won't they fix them?

EdwardBear · 25/03/2009 17:23

Did you buy them on card? You will have a credit card bill maybe? that counts as proof of purchase so you should at least get an excange

nickschick · 25/03/2009 17:27

I have a pair of clarks shoes- the sole began to split,I telephoned clarks (they were a gift so no receipt) they said the manager at the clarks shop near me could change them at her discretion.

I went in the shop full prepared for no help to be given walked out 5 mins later with a new pair!!.

Go to another clarks branch- tell them you always buy clarks etc etc and these have developed fault you foned head office and understand it is at the managers discretion - bet they exchange them.

gingerninja · 25/03/2009 17:36

How long have you had them? Because you are covered by statute aren't you when you buy something that doesn't last the time it's expected to. Of course that's the bit that's difficult to prove but a pair of kids shoes should be able to last at least until they've grown out of them. I know I am heart broken every time I need to buy a new pair of shoes when the old ones are in perfect condition. Never had the chance to wear a pair out yet.

threetinytots · 25/03/2009 19:52

Never had a problem with clarks shoes, but dd had a pair startrite that had a fault(one of the flashing lights wasn't working). We took them back and they said we could either have a refund, or some money off or exchange them for a new pair. Took the latter option, however they weren't expecting any more stock of her size for over 2 months, so she wore them and 2 months later we took them back and exchanged for a new pair!(in the next size up, of course )

I'd definately try a different branch of clarks, think that is shocking customer service, especially for the price you pay. There is some kind of legislation that says something along the lines that the product purchased such be fit for its intended use. Obviously if the velcro isn't working the product is faulty and cannot be used as intended.

I bought DD a pair of those schoolshoes with the doll in the heel in August. In November I noticed that the insole (where you access teh doll) had become so bent it had formed a ridge adn dd was complaining it was hurting her feet. The shoes were also quite scratched at the toe. I did not have the receipt.

I went in all sugary-sweet nicely nicely and did the 'I am not expecting anything but thought I would just ask' etc etc.

I was not expecting them to do anything. But they said that if dd was still the same size they would give me a brandnew pair of schoolshoes of my choice, and if she had gone up a size they would sell me a new pair half price.
Dd had not changed sizes so I got a brandnew pair.

So, moral of the story - try a different clarkes and be very very very nice. Start with 'sorry to trouble you with this' and go from there.

Good luck

Good luck QOD. And I did not mean to imply you were not nice when you first went in. But sometimes different staff react differently. I made a big deal of saying 'I am not going to complain or shout, I just wanted to bring this fault with the shoe to your attention' and that seemed to make them happy to help me as much as they did
And bearing in mind dd had been wearing the shoes for 3 months I honestly did not expect anything so to walk out with a brandnew pair was a bonus

So good luck. The receipt should not really be needed - all Clarks shoes are logod up so it should be easy to prove it is a Clarks shoe!

mrsleroyjethrogibbs · 26/03/2009 11:24

tbh i think £5 is a bit mean. For the sake of a pair of shoes for a little one its a bit pah of the shop person to offer you such a meagre amount. I mean customer service counts for everything nowadays. I hope you go somewhere else and get a better response

sandk · 26/03/2009 12:32

I've had a number of problems with Clarks in the past, mostly with their shoes breaking, but also on a couple of those occasions their customer service in the store being poor. I was told by one shop assistant that they expect their kids shoes to last 6-8 weeks(!!!), and any replacement or refund beyond that time is at the manager's discretion.

Now we don't buy Clarks. This winter DS had a pair of Ricosta boots, they were expensive being £50, but are still going strong.

QOD · 26/03/2009 16:25

anybody know the name and email of a top type person i can complain to? the only other clarks is 20 miles away LOL, dont really fancy a 40 mile round trip for £5....
