Storing childrens art work

Hs anyone come up with a good idea of how to store children's artwork that you are going to keep for them? Something a bit more exciting then a scrapbook? I don't mean something to hang it out to see (i.e. one of those washng line things with big pegs) but something to keep it in for years stored away safely. Thanks

I have a big box from Ikea - it came flat-packed, I folded it together and keep it under the bed. Things that are sweet/worth keeping/would feel guilty if I threw away go in the box - the really good stuff goes up on the wall.

i use a3 art folders, the kind that have plastic pages, so i can leaf through them occasionally. i've only found them in proper art/craft shops, about £6 each.

Don't you find you end up with loads of the folders though?

Anyone else have any alternatives?

Each of mine have a plastic under-bed storage box with a lid, and the best/most significant stuff goes in there.

I heard a good idea the other day, the person photographed all artwork and saved it on the computer, I thought it sounded like a real solution but haven't got round to trying it yet.

I bought those art cases - the concertina sort with hard plastic covers and about 20 plastic 'windows' inside to store artwork safely. I think they're properly called certificate folders.

I bought them in a4 and a3 sizes too .

tose concertina sort sdounf goodf but sureky they donlt come big enough?

You have all come up with some great ideas - far better then my put them in the cardboard box in the cupboard and then have no idea what anything is and who did it within 3 months!

i always write name/age on the back and try to file them in chronological order. have 2dds nearly 6 and nearly 2 and only have 3 folders so far, am pretty selective. also take pictures of stuff we like but doesn't pass "must keep" threshold.

southeastastra · 23/03/2009 19:08

photograph them, then keep on the computer

I just use a normal A4 clip folder and hole punch them and date/name them

one for each child

SalBySea · 23/03/2009 19:14

how much are you storing?
Do you really think they'll want more than a few samples? I dont! My mum kept so much stuff "for me" (really I think she saved it for HER) and whenever she presents me with another box / scrap book I might keep one thing and chuck the rest!

I'm not that sentimental about my own scribbles - I'm sure it was a big deal to my mum when I learnt to draw circles or whatever but I dont remember it and they mean nothing to me

CharleeInSpring · 23/03/2009 19:17

Here is a good idea if anyone is unindated with artwork.

You could always post it to a child on postpals its for children with terminal or life limiting conditions, my DS is on there and you won't belive how much a picture from another child brightens his day when he is in hospital or feeling ill.

Just an idea.

blowninonabreeze · 23/03/2009 19:18

snap fish make photo books of childrens art work.

Never used them myself - they sent me a flyer and I noticed it recently - DD1 scribbles aren't worth even saving yet - never mind making into a book!
