Buggy Boards

Is a buggy board the best option, are they any good? I really don't want to go down the double buggy route. DD will have just turned 2

a friend of mine had one for her 2.5 yr old. one day he dashed off of it and into a road. she had to leave newborn on pavement while she ran to retrieve him.

it really put me off using one tbh, althouhh we do have one.

I really like my double buggy, it was so much easier when out shopping to know that they were both strapped in rather than free to run off

I've used a buggy board and a Kiddi-board for 2 year olds and found them very useful for the times when a double buggy isn't suitable.

I bought a seat-to-go once and it was rubbish!!!

we have used the lascal 3G buggy board very very happily with the boys, DS1 was 2.5 when DS2 was born and it was perfect, we had already given up using the buggy for shorter journeys, distances round the shops and he felt like such a grown up on his "skate board"

we are going to be getting rid of ours as we don't need it anymore so if you fancy buying one second hand you could have ours

mumlove · 19/03/2009 13:32

I am a childminder and use a buggy board. My mindees always say that they want to go on the 'skateboard' . I always have reins/wristlink on them just incase they decide to get off.

moshie · 19/03/2009 19:32

They're great for a co-operative two year old, not so good when a child has a tantrum or is very tired.

Marne · 19/03/2009 19:38

We have one but last year (whilst the buggy was loaded up for the beach) dd1 pulled the buggy back onto herself whilst going up the kirb and now she won't go on it.

BTPOG Thanks for the offer, am bidding for one on Ebay, might get back to you though if that falls through.
Actually I might see how long I can manage with newborn in the sling, and toddler in the buggy?

I'd say it all depends on how much you're walking about. I don't drive and have to do the school run everyday and I had my DD when my 2nd DS was just about 2. He refused to go on the buggyboard and that time and I opted for a double buggy by the time my DD was about 6 weeks old. We used it until my DS was 2 years and 10 months and then I started using the buggyboard again and it's been fine.

JackBauer · 21/03/2009 00:13

I managed with 19 month gap with sling and buggy for a few months but then I used the double whe I wanted to be able to bend and lift DD1 too at the park.
Then I moved to double buggy for a few months, it was horrible, so cumbersome.
We have had a seat to go since DD1 was 2.6, she lvoes it, and unlike the buggy board (which we tried) it has 2 levels, so when her legs are tired DD1 can sit down instead of standing.

katiepotatie · 21/03/2009 15:21

I ahd a look at The Seat to Go, it had quite a lot of bad reviews. Our dd is a good walker so might just see how we get along before buying anything.

I freakin' LOVE my buggy board!

I bought a double buggy (for sale £75 delivered if anyone interested ) but only used it once - used sling and single buggy. Had sling and buggy then dd (now 2.11) tried her friend's on a Maclaren and thought it was The Best Thing Ever. So have had it (Lascal 3G) for a few months and it's fitted easily a icandy Cherry, old Mamas & Papas stroller and now the Quinny Buzz... Ds goes rearfacing so they chat

katiepotatie · 22/03/2009 21:53

Umlellala think you've just made up my mind for me, think a buggy board is what I'm looking for

Katie - how did you get on with ebay?

nicolamumof3 · 23/03/2009 16:36

very much depends on the child, where/how often/how far you are walking, the weather (do you want them on buggy board in freezing cold/pouring rain) etc. our 3yr old has just stopped using double buggy (p&t) and is now walking quite far unless he's ill very tired. i don't want a buggy board tho hate the way they make you walk !

Umlellala · 24/03/2009 07:32

Have to say, most of my friends have the P&T. But then their kids occasionally nap during day (mine absolutely must not, unless we want her to go to bed at 10pm). I still use the Ergo a lot for ds too.

I think I must walk weirdly normally, Nicola, cos my friends say they get their feet caught too/have to walk funny but seems fine to me

katiepotatie · 24/03/2009 22:29

Really don't like the newborn part of the P&T, would consider for older baby maybe?

BTPOG how much were you looking for it?, some on ebay are over the shop price!! Missed out on the one I was bidding for.

Yes Umlellala same here DD just fell asleep around 10pm, she lay down on the floor and dropped off at tea time!!! Must never let that happen again!(she gave up naps around 17 months)
