Please recommend a bike for a 5 year old girl?

My DD will be 5 in June and we would like to get her a bike. Most of them seem to be very heavy and pricey, so before we make an expensive mistake I thought I would seek some advice. When she has had a ride on her friends bike (with stabilisers) she complains that they are too slow and that it is hard to push the pedals. She loves riding on her scooter and seems totally uninterested in a bike, should I leave it for another year?

I'm coming at this from a different direction, having given DD a bike with stabilisers before she was 3, but in your shoes I'd be quite inclined to leave it. For one, if she's not interested, whatever you buy could be an expensive white elephant. And then 5 is maybe an awkward age for getting a child on a bike, given it sounds like she'd be frustrated by the slowness of stabilisers, but not quite able to do without them yet (although she could be off stabilisers very quickly).

On the other hand, if I didn't leave it, I'd be very tempted by an Islabike (CNOC 16), with the option of taking the pedals off initially, or adding stabilisers. But then that may be because I really wanted one for DD, but DH wouldn't let me (don't know why, it's only twice the price of the frilly pink clunking Raleigh she got instead )

We got DD a Giant Puddin' bike when she was 6 and its very good.

Thanks for the replies. I too like the look of the Islabike, maybe we will leave it for another year or think about it again at Christmas.
