About to buy a new car and it has Isofix points. I thought you could simply buy a seat that slots onto the car points but it seems that most car seats come with a base (which you have to buy seperatly). One website I read suggested that you can buy seats that don't need a base bu they are hard to find.

i was under the impression rear facing seats need a seperate base ie infant carriers, but forward facing for 9 months on have the prongs incoparated.
check on britax website it is very informative.

I think it's only infant carriers that need a base.

Even next stage but rearfacing (9 months plus) don't need a base AFAIK.

Our "baby" one had a base, our "big boy"one goes straight into the car points.

One of our cars is a Volvo - it just fits but you cant then fasten the seat belt in the holder !! Suggest U go to Mothercare/Halfords and try first.

That's right raindrop, only the rear facing baby seats need a base for Isofix. Next stage up it is incorporated. Although OP sounds like she may not want to have to buy a separate base - you don't have to use the Isofix mounting, you can still use the seatbelt to fix any seat in.
