Which double pushchair is the most comfortable for a newborn?

Aside from those with carrycot option. I haven't the room in the house or car for one of those.

When I've been looking at doubles I've noticed that a lot of them are very 'exposed' for the newborn, geared more towards the toddler.

Given that the toddler will probably be jumping in and out, which one would the baby choose?

phil & teds with the cocoon

or mountain buggy?

I'd love a mountain buggy but it's massive. Can't think where I'd keep it!

another vote for a phil and teds with the cocoon,
pricey but well worth it

mountain buggy is fairly cocoon like when reclined, dd2 was always really cosy in my MBUD.

the graco tandem is cosy for the newborn, but heavy with the toddler up front.

I had that prob. it lived in the porch in the day, and took up nearly all my tiny hall at night. well worth it though, imo.

Does it stand up when folded? When I looked at it in the shop the sales lady said there was nothing to clip it together. I have quite a big cupboard in the hall but otherwise it would be in the sitting room. Not feasible.

Yes. You fasten it together with the strap which has popper on it. You need to take the carrycot off though to fold it.

I have a mountain buggy double and a phil & teds and much prefer my MB. DD4 lloks much comfier in a proper seat which fully reclines. The MB doesn't have a locking catch but we use a bungee which does the trick. When it is folded it is fairly slim and i can fit it in the under stairs cubboard.

yes, like this

nicolamumof3 · 12/03/2009 23:01

v.compact (love the wheelybug hiding in background )

if i had my double time over again i'd have mb double you need air tyres for when the newborn is no longer newborn and you have TWO heavy lumps to transport!

noimnotstressed · 13/03/2009 08:52

mmm, like the purple!

Might have to revisit the mb, had ruled it out as too big. I really like the idea of the carrycot though. Does the toddler have no hood with the carrycot on? All the pictures I've seen are like this

I have an easy walker duo - very similar to the mountain buggy (also takes maxi cosi and separate carry cot) but slightly cheaper (have seen them in kiddicare for £499 although got mine in the states)and both seats have separate hoods.

I'm very happy with mine although have only used it so far with DS (21m) and neighbour's child of the same age. baby due in a few weeks so will get full road test then!

If you look out for an older MB with a carrycot the hood actually covers both the toddler and baby. Ditto the raincover. Better than the newer design in this respect.

I had a Nipper Out'n'About (Instep?) - less than half the price of MB and crucially less than half the weight. I had a newborn head hugger insert for newborn dd and 2 yo dd was v happy they were sat next to each other. They shared till eldest was 4.
Nipper has pneumatic tyres; also a non swivelling front wheel but still massively easy to steer. Great sunshade and raincover. Folds and clips together to stay folded - fits in the boot of hatchback or estate easily but also kept in hall - had to hollow a bit out of the door frame to get through the front door tho'. Super easy to fold and light to swing in and out the car when out and about (boom boom). I've never had an MB but cannot imagine why people go for them over the Nipper! Def worth a look; c£250rrp?
