Anyone have a baby breathing monitor?

If so, what brand and are you happy with it?

DISCLAIMER: We are expecting a baby with a lung abnormality, and have previously lost a baby to stillbirth at full term. Although we managed without for our healthy DS, this time round we are anxious and DH in particular feels a product like this might help us. (I'm not some random neurotic mum who wants to buy any piece of baby paraphenalia going. And I do know that there is no evidence that they are useful against SIDS)

I wanted one and I had a perfectly healthy baby, so no need for the disclaimer! Have no idea what they are like, but think they may be good.

breathing monitor

Sorry to hear that you are having a tough time. It must be a real worry for you. When are you due?

We bought this one for reasurrance after my DD stopped breathing during a seizure. It does occassionally false alarm, but my DD does have irregular breathing. I would recommend it.

I have a Tommee Tipee breathing monitor, and I think it's great, still using it (without the alarm) on our 23 month old dd!
Did have 2 false alarms with it, once she could move around her cot more. I think it was well worth the money. Good Luck

Thank you all. Pawslikepaddington, I wasn't meaning to offend with my disclaimer, just didn't fancy any patronising posts saying "what do you want one of those for?" FWIW, I'm glad we held off with DS though it did make us more neurotic breathing checkers in the first few months.

mad4mybaby and Mitchell, sorry to hear that your babes actually have had real alarms, though very glad that the monitors have helped with this.

Mitchell, I'm due end of April and things are looking far more positive now than they were when lung problem first diagnosed. Fingers crossed the docs are right and baby will be able to go home (was expecting SCBU and surgery at birth, whereas now they think they will be able to delay surgery till 6 months hence my keenness for a monitor now)

We have a Tommee Tippee one too, slightly more basic model than the one Mitchell81 linked too and really like it.
It did have a couple of false alarms when DS wriggled off the mat when he got older. But he's always been perfectly healthy, we were just neurotic first time parents!

Mrsboring, hope everything goes well with the rest of your pregnancy and the birth, and that you are able to take your baby home straight away.

Oh gosh sorry, I wasn't cross! I was just saying all mummies want them, sorry!

There are monitor out there that clip onto the baby and can be used either all the time or when they are asleep in their car seat, buggy, amby nest or cot.
They sound and alarm if baby stops breathing and vibrate to stimulate baby they cost about £70-80. I cant personally recommend which one but I do believe they are both reliable and passed stringent safety tests

If the link doesn't work try Snuza baby mointer.

sleepyeyes · 11/03/2009 13:06

I wasn't very clear there they clip onto the nappy not the baby.

mrsgboring · 11/03/2009 13:19

sleepyeyes, thanks for this. I had only considered an alarm for the cot, as I don't plan on using a buggy (mad sling lady me) but would definitely be handy to have one for the carseat.

Hensmum, thanks for the info and the good wishes.

Paws, I thought you probably weren't offended but didn't want to take any chances, since it's so hard to tell on an internet forum.

Mrsgboring, not long to go then. Fingers crossed surgery is delayed until later. Good luck.

Understand why you put the disclaimer as could have had the comment(Why do you need one, but even if you just want to use one, then so be it)

We had Respisense clip-on monitors for our twins. Fantastic little things!

Angel Care here too and I still use it for Dd at 2.2years. It helps with the anxiety and I'm glad I borrowed it from my friend. I would recommend it.
