Hello,

We've noticed this thread is quite old and some of the product recommendations are a little out of date. We've spent weeks speaking to parents and testing out strollers and buggies. Here's our round up of the best lightweight buggies available to buy now

Hope that helps!

Maclaren Techno XT or whatever the new-fangled modern equivalent is. Everybody needs one. If I had just one buggy it would be that. (I also have a Phil and Ted's double).

LittleHarrysMum · 08/03/2009 13:12

Thanks swamp. Do they lie completely flat? Not that it's a huge deal. Was looking at some of those on ebay. Will go back now and have another looky

They have a very slight incline, I think, but are suitable from newborn. The fancy expensive ones have all the comfy gubbins (cosytoes etc) with.

carrielou2007 · 08/03/2009 20:16

XT is suitable from birth and lies almost flat. I borrowed one from a very kine friend to take away when my dd was 10 weeks old and I hated it. Now she's bigger it's brill!

Also the quest is a great holiday buggy, the triumph also for an older child? Or quinny zapp folds small but no recline or the zia very similar but has a recline?

Depends on if it's folds small you need, or lightweight or lie back etc. The quest is ideal holiday buggy and you can carry everything on it without it breaking!!

Egg · 08/03/2009 20:29

If it's just for hols the Quest is great, XT is just a bit more padded (and expensive).

I have a Zapp. It is good for hols as folds small but otherwise a bit shite!

nicolamumof3 · 08/03/2009 20:32

xt is fab and on offer at mothercare atm, it is a great buggy i regret selling mine (and im a buggy addict! would have another any day) i also bought an obaby vintage for £60 as an emergency buggy and also lies practically flat was v.impressed.

swampster · 08/03/2009 20:52

Does a Quest go flat? I didn't think it did. I think it has smaller wheels than an XT which makes it rubbish to push - or is that just the Volo?.

nicolamumof3 · 08/03/2009 21:03

no not as flat as xt.

BeehiveBaby · 08/03/2009 21:54

Mini Citi Baby Jogger one? That fold would convince me for hols, and the huge hood if somewhere sunny

LittleHarrysMum · 09/03/2009 08:46

Thankyou for all the replies!

Will start my search immediately! Won't tell DH though he already thinks I spend to much on the kids

i bought a mamas & papas aria about a month ago. very lightweight and easy to fold. ds loves it. lies almost flat

nappyaddict · 11/03/2009 23:26

I got told by someone in a baby shop that before for a pushchair to be suitable from birth it had to recline to 170 degrees. Now it is 150 degrees but I would still personally prefer to go for the 170.

XLR is 170 degrees and suitable from birth
XT is 150 degrees and suitable from birth
Quest and Triumph are suitable from 3 months in UK but 6 months in EU. I personally would go for the 6 months.

A cheaper but just as good quality alternative is the Obaby Vintage or Obaby Atlas. I'm not sure how many degrees they recline to but they seem to lie as flat as the XLR.

Could anyone recommend a good lightweight buggy that reclines to allow my baby to sleep but that is also not going to break the bank? I already have a Bug for day to day so I only need this for our holiday... And I really don't want to have to pay RyanAir anymore than I have to for the pleasure of transporting it! Thanks so much.

NK59aec00aX11d9b78d09c · 12/04/2009 20:28

Oh and I would prefer an umbrella folding one too if possible.

nicolamumof3 · 12/04/2009 20:40

i didn't realise they charged for buggies? they didn't when i flew with them last year?

anyway, as i've said before the obaby's are brilliant (i had a vintage £60 from mothercare) v.good competitor to maclaren for the money. depends how much you are going to use it how long you want it to last etc.

NK59aec00aX11d9b78d09c · 12/04/2009 21:05

Oh don't they? To be honest I am assuming they do as they seem to charge for everything else! We'll only be using it for holidays so it doesn't have to be up to day to day use, I just really want something lightweight and that she can sleep in lying down. I really don't want her to have to sleep sitting more upright.

nicolamumof3 · 12/04/2009 21:08

certainly look at the obaby's then, the vintage has nicer finish than the basic one. and it lies right down about 170degs. not as light or nice to push as a maclaren but less than half the price of a quest!

geordieminx · 12/04/2009 21:13

We have an aria and love it.

blueshoes · 12/04/2009 22:07

We use an M&P aria too. Brought on planes as well. Works for us and 2 dcs.

ARAG · 21/04/2009 20:57

You might consider a Jane Energy. That's what we ended up with after lots of research. They're lighter than the Mac Techno XT (fewer features), but have everything you need. Lies nearly nearly flat, umbrella fold, nice tall handles (our requirement). Really hard to find a supplier to 'test drive' one. I checked loads of reviews and bought it sight unseen. We have been very happy with it, particularly because my daughter sleeps very well in it.

We looked at the Mac Quest... it is lighter than the Techno XT (fewer features), but the handles are not adjustable and were just too short for me (I'm 5'9).

We have no car, so the buggy is our daughter's main mode of transport. We wanted one with lots of comfort and plenty of good features, but still v. light (and tall handles!). This one fit the bill.
