Which Magimix ?

Our rubbishy food processor has finally died a death. DH and I have always wanted a magimix, but there are so many different kinds.

We cook a lot but we're a small family still - just us and DD.
Which one would you recommend?

I've got the magimix 5200. It is lovely

Yes, that's the one that DH wants, despite it being most expensive. He thinks big is best

I am inclined to agree with him!

I love making cakes, and a 5 or 6 egg mixture fits in easily. Not sure that would work in a smaller machine.

Also, when I make soup and then blend it I find that I use the whole capacity.

I've got the 4200 last week and I have to confess that for a moment I regretted it when I opened the box and read the recipe book (wanted all the extra gadgets that they mentioned!!)

Then I remembered that with my old machine I only ever used the grating disk, the slicing disk, the dough hook and the blade and the rest gathered dust in the back of the cupboard. I got over myself

Oh, top tip - unless you desperately want the stainless steel version, you can save about £60 by getting the same model in white.

I bought the 5200 on eBay and I love it - but I do have lots of kids and lots of guests for dinner so I cook in bulk. It does have smaller bowls if you don't need lots of volume.

I don't really use it for soup though - I have a little handheld blender for that.

procrastinatingparent: do you ever use the juicer attachment? Vaguely contemplating buying it from a spares shop, but wondering if it'll be a one use attachment then discovering what a pig it is to clean

SobranieCocktail · 08/03/2009 10:41

TBH I'd avoid Magimix and go for a Cuisinart. They seem MUCH more robust, and although they have generally fewer attachments and gadgety bits they do the job better IMO.

I got a Magimix a couple of years ago, and had TWO replacements within the first month as it broke (jammed up) while I was making bread dough in it...even though I was following the recipe in the Magimix book to the letter!

Haven't yet, RubberDuck, so don't know how it is to clean. Of course the fact that I haven't used it yet might indicate it is not so useful - or just that I'm not a juicer!

Oh go on ... try it for me and report back I'm sure you have a few spare apples lying around that you're just dying to juice
