Does anyone have any suggestions?

a pouch sling like a Hotsling or Peanut Shell.

GreenEggsandNiceHam · 05/03/2009 18:20

yes exactly.
i've had both but always end up using the peanut shell in fleece. I've had it since DS1 was little and still use it now Ds2 is 1, so comfy!

What do you want out of it?

Personally I find one-shoulder slings highly uncomfortable and use a woven wrap (a Didymos Indio) or a Mei-Tai (BallBabyOverall or Napsack - tried a MeiTaiBaby but didn't get on with it).

How long you want to wear it for and what you want to do while you are will both have a big impact on what is likely to work well for you

Well, I want to be able to carry him whilst out shopping and a bit at home too. He wriggles in the trolley and it's a nightmare.

He's 13 months now and is quite heavy, but I don't want anything that ties round my tummy as I am a little bit chubby!

I like the look of a Hotsling - are they any good?

You should try the Papoozle from totsbots. It is fab. It can be used in lots of different ways and is really comfortable.
If you want something quicker and easier to use - try the Baby & All bag. It is a bag that doubles as a carrier. Great for short journeys or when your little refuses to walk. The rest of the time it is just a handy bag. Well worth a look.

Have a look here for reviews - looks like the hotsling is generally pretty popular, although some people gave it very low marks.

At the end of the day it will be what works for you and your DS, and that can be difficult to predict even if you're a moderately experienced babywearer - if you like the look of them then get one and try it

I used a baba sling and found it reasonably comfy but not for very long periods - they can sometimes be found relatively cheaply in TK Maxx.

I made my own pouch sling and used it most when dd1 was up and down like a see saw when we went shopping. exactly as OP is describing. If you or someone you know has even the most basic sewing skills, you can easily make your own.

I recently enabled a mummy with a heavy 12 mo old with a Hotsling. she finds it comfy too. The important thing is to get the right size. your baby must be very close to your body to get the support from it. if there is a gap, it won't be supportive.

Thanks ladies, I've ordered a Hotsling in Tokyo fabric from Little Possums. Will see how we get on with it. Hopefully I've ordered the right size!

Can't wait for it to arrive and start using it!
