Mei Tais- Babyhawk or Toddlerhawk? How do the sizes compare??

The search for the perfect back carrier continues....
I took ds out in the Kari Me today and as much as I love it he is really too big to be on my front now. He is almost 9 months and is a big boy- last time he was measured he was off the height chart. I am not brave enough to wrap him on my back.
I was leaning towards the Ergo, but having now seen some mei tais I love the look of them. But I don't know wether to get a Babyhawk or a Todderhawk. I want to get my moneys worth, so I wonder wether he wil grow out of the baby one quickly? Is there much size diffeerence between them? I am slightly favouring the Toddlerhawk as it should last longer and [shallow emoticon] I have found one in a print I adore. But will it be dangerous if it is too big?? Any help would be great

If the toddlerhawk is too big you can roll it at the bottom to make it shorter until he grows into it. I find that DS's head comes up above the headrest on the babyhawk and he is only 12mo.

Briliant that's good to know, thank you. Do you have a mei tai? I have watched lots of videos on youtube and they do seem very secure but do you not collapse with worry the first time you take them out on your back?? I know realistically that he won't be able to fall out but how will I stop myself worrying that he will??!

I am only just starting back carries with the BH and I find it a huge faff to get him on. Once he is on I don't feel that he will fall out but I do worry about his head and neck. He falls asleep in the sling a lot and his head falls back because the headrest doesn't support it so I don't use it for long trips.

The Toddlerhawk is 2 1/2" taller than the babyhawk, and wider, so if your DS likes to have his arms out, he might be frustrated. If you buy secondhand (UKBabywearingSwap on Yahoo is a really good group), then you could sell the BabyHawk on when you are finished with it for very little less than you paid.

First times you back carry get someone else to help you get the straps right on your back and spot you. It really is very secure - you have to make sure they are right down in the sling by doing the little jiggle before tying otherwise they do end up too high in it. I like a lexi twist on my straps and cross on the front too in order to spread the weight out
