Is it just me?

Is it just me or is anyone else having trouble with the Avent variflow teats? My 17 week old dd has no trouble with the bog standard number 2 teats which she's used since 9 weeks but when she has the variflow ones, using number 2, she almost drowns! I've already decided to wait a few more weeks before trying again with them (after all now I've bought them I may as well try and use them) but just wondered whether it was something I was doing???

Can't you try the variflow on number one, until she gets used to it then turn the bottle round to number two at a later date?

We didn't get on with the Avent teats either. I found Maws seemed really good. They also call it "variflow" I think - or something similar, but it works differently. It's just a cross cut into the top of the teat which, I'm guessing, opens up more if sucked harder.

I always found that the advent bottles used to leak like mad. I thought maws were alot better.

I couldn't work out how to use the variflow teats at all! I just stuck to buying number 2 teats and then number 3 (they say they should be chucked out after 3 months anyway, so decided it wasn't any more expensive to just buy each size rather than using variflow).

I'm so glad someone else owned up to being baffled by those variflow things - are you supposed to do something special with them to get them variflowing?? I just gave up and went straight onto a cup but would still love to know where I went wrong

On the side of the advent variflow teats there is a I, II and III. If you have the teat in your babys' mouth with the 'I' facing upwards that is position one, if you turn the teat around in your babys' mouth so the 'II' is facing upwards, that is position two, then do the same for 'III' when you baby is older and needs a faster flow.

Took me a while too! - I don't know why it doesn't come with instructions, would save a lot of hassle.

cheers furball - I dug the teats out of hibernation to try it out and it does kind of seem to make a difference - now I am 'in the know'.
