Pushchair Puzzle: Maclaran Quest vs. Jane Energy for a 5'9 mum?

I'm tall and with a bad back. Given our other criteria (particularly that it be light and easy to one-hand-fold), we've shortlisted the Maclaran Quest and the Jane Energy pushchair. I've tested the Quest, and I think it's good, but maybe the handlebars are a tad low. I can't find the Jane pushchair in a store anywhere, so I haven't been able to test it, but I hear the handlebars are higher, which is good.

Any other tall mums out there with experience with the Quest or Jane Energy? My hunch is that the Quest is the better product, but I don't want to regret having too-short handles! Test-driving in the shop is one thing, but walking day-in-day-out is quite another!

I had an Energy and loved it,I am 5'8.
I can't bare macs I find them rattly and I don't like the little wheels.Jane has chunky wheels also has a nice big seat for toddlers

Another option is the Silver Cross Pop (that's what I have now) good quality and nice high handles (I think higher than Energy)

I do think the Quest is a good product (I have one). Depends what you are going to use it for. I am 3 inches taller than you and use my quest as a boot buggy - get it out for shopping/swimming etc. It's fine for that, I often push it with one hand and walk by the side of it as I find it hard to walk behind it. I would not like to use it was a walking buggy, I would be bent over it the whole time.

Thanks for the responses. Very helpful! I saw in reviews for the Energy that people had problems with the clip when it was collapsed. Did you have that problem lillypie?

You've got me thinking crokky... I'm looking for a 'round town all-the-time buggy. Hm...

The problem with the clip is that you have to remember to pull it out as you fold the buggy down, it's ok but means that you have to open the buggy if you have forgotten. It's also not the most secure clip but saying that I managed getting on and off buses and folding and unfolding with a baby that wasn't yet walking so all in all it's fine.

The pop has a clip on each side that close automatically when you fold the buggy.

Another recommendation for the SC pop here from a six footer. Its really very good height wise, and feels much more substantial to me than the Maclaren. Very easy to fold one handed too.

I had a Silver cross pop and found it hard to push, I also think the Quest would be a bit short for you, have you looked at the Maclaren Techno? They are fab, have higher extendable handles and loads of other great features.

EsmeWeatherwax · 02/03/2009 09:59

Haven't they changed something about the wheels on the pop so the newer versions aren't so bad to push? I'm sure I read that on here somewhere. I could be wrong though, being only an amateur pushchair addict!

ARAG · 02/03/2009 21:58

Thanks again for the posts! Very illuminating!

I'm thinking it's time to rule out the Quest. The Pop sounds intriguing, but it's 7kg and I was hoping to get lighter than that. Am I asking for too much? I have 'test driven' the Maclaran Techno and the handle height is great, but again, it's heavier and maybe has more than I need at this stage (DD 13 mos).

Humph... I'm leaning Jane Energy, but I just wish I could see it somewhere first! My first attempts at finding it in store somewhere have failed! Maybe I'll come across a Pop and be convinced....

Any more Jane Energy owners out there?

Have you thought about one of these:

I am 5'9 and have a Techno and its brilliant - the handles come up really high so I am never stooped. Its very easy to push, with one hand not a problem and turning corners v easy. Very durable as well.

I have a 21 mo and have used it pretty much since birth with no problems and it does get battered around a bit! With a 13 mo, I would imagine you'd get plenty of use out of it yet.

I am tall and have a Quest and I do find the handles too low. Also looked at Jane Energy but thought Maclaren quality and style was much better. Even trying it out in the shop the Jane clip was problematic which I knew would drive me bonkers. Also subsequently borrowed a Pop to try out and found it much harder work to push than the Quest. Very frustrating as the Quest is a very easy fold and nice and light! Have you looked at Baby Jogger City Mini? It's a three-wheeler but apparently high handles. I've not tried it out myself but it has good reviews I think.
