Talk to me about range cookers (gas & electric ones)

Am about to build extension which means I will be venturing into purchasing all kinds of goods I have never had to before (as have always lived with whatever kitchen was in house we bought).

I am looking to buy a range cooker - approx 1000cm wide. I would like at least 3 ovens (elcetric) and 6 gas burners.

Amy recommendations on what to get? The prices vary considerably, but not sure if the quality does too.

Wow! That is a fantastic deal Linney. Think I'll start scouring eBay!

I wouldn't bother with a griddle plate. I only use mine for plonking spoons on, never to cook on. A griddle pan is easier to clean!

I have the rangemaster professional plus and absolutely love it. I use the wee oven loads and it's great as it's a fan oven. I think they look great too (think I prefered the look to the professional) like the wok burner and also use the griddle.

Thanks for that input Amazonian and Rhumba. I'm going to try to look at them all "in the flesh" this weekend then make my mind up (might sneak in a look at some Falcons too )

I have this leisure range cooker

And is cheaper than the Rangemaster - no griddle thank God .... it was a hinderance that feckin' thing on my old range I can tell you ... but it does have a fab ceramic warming plate - which I use loads 5 burners incl wok burner - very high grade s/steel too - not a bad price either !

You are all making me want a new range - stop it!

I use my griddle all the time, for steaks, fish, even eggs. it's pretty versatile and I find the dirt just falls off it.

LyraSilvertongue · 26/02/2009 16:09

Have y'all ha a look at this? I scored measly 17 out of 100

LyraSilvertongue · 26/02/2009 16:09

Oops, wrong thread.

amazonianwoman · 26/02/2009 16:32

Hmm might try out my griddle then

It doesn't have ridges and can't be removed to clean it, so just thought it was a bit of a waste of space. I'm prepared to prove myself wrong!

LyraSilvertongue · 26/02/2009 19:06

Ah, mine's the cast-iron one that sits on top of the pan supports and is half ridged, half smooth.

amazonianwoman · 26/02/2009 19:50

That does sound good. Much better than the stupid flat permanent fixture that wastes a quarter of the hob space on my crappy inherited Stoves.
