Good all-terrain buggy?

We want to get a second hand all-terrain buggy for long walks on mud/in fields, so we don't trash our main (urban) one. DS is 16 weeks, so it needs to be able to recline almost flat. Can anyone help by recommending a brand - Phil and Ted, or Mountain Buggy, or Jane, or what?

Either or the ones you've listed is fine. I don't personally rate P&T as a single buggy.

Phil and Teds are marvellous for all-terrain. Ours had a complete hammering on all terrain, and survived - in fact, we got £180 for it on eBay when we'd finished with it!!

I had a mutsy urban and def preferred the 3 wheelers for all terrain, they just seem to cope better.

Old style Mountain Buggy Terrain or Urban Detour both available second hand for bargain prices on ebay.

Hey CarGirl I bought a Baby Jogger City Mini from Kiddicare, thanks for your recommendation. It hasn't come yet, but I saw one in John Lewis (in a nicer colour) and I really liked it. I showed the JL staff how it folded and they were really amazed with it, even the bloke who looked much too young to be a parent.

Qually, I think the P&T is a little low to the ground for deep mud, although I've mostly seen the older version (E3 and Sport I think) so perhaps the newer ones are a bit higher. Everyone I know with a MB loves it to bits and apparently they are virtually indistructable. I have an old-style Mothercare Urban Detour which is fantastic over rough ground, but it is heavy (about 12kg) if you're going to be going up steep hills.

We have a mountain buggy, but it's an older style urban double. It is built like a tank, but in a good way I took it on a massive walk today with both dc in it and it is like pushing air, even up very steep hills and muddy grass. I would say to get an older one with a fixed handle too- it feels absolutely solid, whereas the newer ones do have a slight give.

bran - hope you love it!

We had/have the Mutsy (selling it at the mo) and I think it is fab off road. Locking the steering makes it so easy to push on really rutted ground or mud.

Nothing for mud to get trapped on round the wheels either and very easy to pop them off to put in a bag to stop the car getting muddy

Miyazaki · 22/02/2009 20:53

Mountain Buggy. They are the best.

Qally · 22/02/2009 21:04

SparklyGothKat, that sounds perfect - can I ask whereabouts you live? We're east of London?
