Sheepskin rugs for newborns - are they worth buying?

I am generally going to stick to essentials for this baby but often felt 'something' was lacking when I put my other two in their moses baskets.

Do you think these are worth it? At £60 I would like to know in advance!

Mine loved hers. Actually I've got it under her cot sheet so she still enjoys it at 13m. Wasn't anything like 60 quid, iirc. Have you tried Ikea?

No, thanks ninedragons, I will have a look. I have two older children so will be hoping for dc3 to sleep by itself and I know from experience that babies are not too happy about being left which means carrying all the time / co-sleeping. Fine but will not be practical for me all the time.

I think they are worth it for buggy/pram
Never thought of using one in the moses basket

DD was a winter baby and she always seemed very happy to snuggle into it.

We had one for the pram and another for the basket. We put sheets over them to stop the fluff getting into her mouth.

My sister sent one from Australia for ds1 who was a december baby. It really helped him to snuggle into his moses basket and always is warm to the touch unlike a moses basket mattress with a sheet on.
We used it again with ds2 who was not as good a sleeper but he also seemed to like it.
There is 16m age gap, we used it every night for 3 years.
As with ninedragons we used it under a sheet at first, then later on just on its own in the cotbed.

You don't have to pay £60. When i was wondering whether to sell mine (and decided NO!! Cant' bear to part with it sorry!) I had a look on ebay and there are some much more reasonably priced ones there.

Or, if budget is an issue, a friend of mine got a cot bed sized fleece blanket, folded that so it was flattish into an adult sized pillow case and put that on the moses basket mattress instead. It was super soft and cosy and looked snuggly cos it came up the sides a bit.

We used a sheepskin rug from Dunelm Mill - £20 and it washes well on the wool cycle. Brush it up with a wool brush. Ds2 loves his and cuddles in to it to go to sleep.

Thanks for replies. I have managed to get one on ebay for cheaper than they cost on the blooming marvelous website.
