I have a TomTom 720 and love it. I drive to all sorts of weird and wonderful places and it is very clear directions

I can't remember which one we have (its in the car... ) BUT, see how old the maps are, make sure that you can get updates for it - and check and see how much the updates are.
The updates for mine cost more than the actual thing cost. And the maps are at least 3 years old

HTH

go to Halfords online or in store and have a rummage. They are all good, as far as I can see having gone through the same process a while ago they are actually pretty similar. More expensive ones have more maps.

They should all come with the latest maps guaranteed (which will upload from your pc), but you do have to factor in buying updated maps every so often.

Mine (tom tom 930 - top of range posh!) lets me correct maps that are wrong, useful for local one-way-streets and changes in traffic roundabouts etc. V useful.

trixymalixy · 20/02/2009 16:07

tom tom definitely!!

ChopsTheDuck · 20/02/2009 16:10

i was wavering between the tom tom and the garmin for aages, and had pretty much decided on the tom tom when we went to halfords. Then the guy in halfords told us that tom toms are always going wrong and being brought back, whereas he never would usually see a garmin returned. Plus, garmin have a policy where if it is faulty you take it back to the store and get a replacement there and then, whereas tom tom have to be sent back to the manufacturers.

Whatever you do, don't buy a mio, they really are a pile of cr*p. Paid a fortune for that and it was useless.

Hmm, will have to sart traveling alot more just to get the use out of it lol

we have had one of the first tomtoms for years and years and years and have never had it go wrong. Toyota only recommend tomtom in their company. that said Garmin are they only system of gps that the aeronautical industry seem to use so really its what works for you
