what age are they suitable from?ds2 is 3 and in cotbed.his room is very small so i think only way to get single sized bed in would be one of those with big legs and stick his drwaers etc underneath.but at 3 is he too young?

A high sleeper might be a bit much, but a mid sleeper would be fine - you can still fit drawers/desks/toys/small wardrobes underneath. And they make great dens

DD went into her mid sleeper when she was 3. She loves it.

Loads of places do them at all prices - GLTC, Flexa, John Lewis, Argos. The more expensive ones tend to be more flexible, ie you can add on matching bits of furniture, convert them to high sleepers/bunkbeds/low singles etc. We've got the Flexa one, it's fab.

i think thats what i ment!thankyou!and your dd was 3?did you worry about falling out, climbing etc?i like that flexa one.

ds went into his at about 2.5/3 and it is great! Think ours is flexa or similar too!

amazonianwoman · 19/02/2009 13:37

Yes, definitely 3. She started in the normal single bed with rails around at 2.4, she was just over 3 when we bought the extra legs and the slanting ladder (thought that looked easier to negotiate than the slanted one.

DD isn't much of a climber anyway so she was fine. She also knew that she wasn't allowed to jump or stand on it by that age.

The Flexa stuff is expensive but so well made and solid. We have the white bed system, shelf and a bookcase so far, and have just ordered a pine bed with rails for DS 2 next month. I think they'll last them til they leave home

cheesesarnie · 19/02/2009 13:43

thanks .do they come with magic sleep button?am hoping might sort out his sleep too!

Nah they cost extra. In fact they're priceless. A new bed could be a big incentive? The Flexa mattresses are very comfy too. Is his cotbed a bit small for him?

cheesesarnie · 19/02/2009 14:30

no not too small but i think bit uncomfy and it will only do another 2 years max so rather than buy new matress i thought maybe new bed.plus as you said maybe big incentive.hopefully

DS2 fell out of a cabin sleeper (middle of the night) at 4yo, was lucky not to be badly hurt. He is very clumsy, mind, crashes into things all day long, too.

cheesesarnie · 19/02/2009 14:33

oh no!

My DD1 (4.7) fell out of her normal low bed last week when she insisted she didn't need her cot-side anymore.

I think it could happen in any bed.

To me there is more "protection" in mid-sleepers/Cabin beds etc.

Yes they are higher up,but unlikely to be hurt,as when they are asleep they are very relaxed obviously so don't tend to injure themselves, just frightens you them.

amazonianwoman · 19/02/2009 15:07

DD does throw herself around a lot at night, but the sides are pretty high. She also has lots of soft toys positioned round the edges.

cheesesarnie · 19/02/2009 21:32

i think we are going to go for it!

OP posts:
amazonianwoman · 19/02/2009 22:35

Which one are you going for?

cheesesarnie · 20/02/2009 12:13

still looking.dont think theres going to room underneath for his drawers(which are 83cm high).went to see second hand one earlier but to small and all the others ive seen are slightly to low!grrrr!

most shops give dimensians of whole height-not just under bed height so unless they are already up on display i cant find out unless i get lucky and find same on ebay iyswim!

How annoying! Will measure under DD's tomorrow. Flexa often come up on eBay.

Do his drawers have little feet that you could saw off?

cheesesarnie · 23/02/2009 14:08

that would be great if you could measure for me!
no his drawers are those canvas things with a simple frame.im thinking me only option failing finding a mid sleeper high enough is put his drawers in play room for toys-which is a shame as brand new bedroom set!-and get a cabin bed with built in drawers!blardy childrem, why cant they sleep in a little corner like the cats!

Oops, forgot all about measuring.

From floor to bottom/outside edge is 74cm, from floor to slats underneath is 81cm.

Saw some great cat beds at Petsathome last week
