Baby Shoes - HELP!

My DD is 11 months, has taken a few steps on her own but mainly likes to walk around holding my hand. She needs some sort of footwear but I have a couple of issues...

Clarks do cruising and walking shoes, in this situation, what is the best to get?

Secondly, she has the tiniest feet, my nephew is 3 months old and has bigger feet than her, does anywhere on the high street stock more structured shoes for titchy feet?

TIA

She doesn't need structured shoes, barefeet or very soft ones (dd had Daisy Roots) are best

PlumBumMum · 17/02/2009 19:19

Crawl and cruise shoes are brill my dd wore hers done enough sole for when they are walking on their own and just go onto harder shoes when they grow out

spicemonster · 17/02/2009 19:19

She doesn't need proper footwear yet. I would get her some inchblues or similar - soft completely unstructured shoes. Someone knows about this (noonka?) but you're not supposed to put them in proper shoes until they are walking confidently on their own.

nuttygirl · 17/02/2009 19:20

When dd was at that stage I think we got the cruisers (on the advice of the sales assistant at Clarks). She had very small feet - I think she was a 2 so we had very limited choice of styles but other than that it wasn't a problem.

Not sure what size start-rite start at but you could search to see if anywhere on your high street sells them.

nuttygirl · 17/02/2009 19:21

Should maybe add we only used them out of the house iirc...she wanted to walk everywhere even though she wasn't very good at it!

Ewe · 17/02/2009 19:29

I have bought the soft totally unstructured shoes - inch blue - but they are too big - even the smallest size.

I know she doesn't need them per se but we go out and about a lot and it's not great her walking around in her tights as she slips over. It's to stop these incidents more than anything else as she really does not like being forced to sit down, she wants to be up and about!

Obviously don't want to damage her feet so will hold off on the hard shoes. Maybe I will just try and find some tights with sticky bits on the bottom.

My DD has the smallest size of inch blue shoes and they fit pretty well (about 1, maybe 1 1/2 cm of space at the toes) - DH had her feet measured in clarks and she was a 1 1/2 so too small for any 'proper' shoes! They have some nice pre-walker shoes in next which would work well as still very soft but have grips on the bottom? the 3-6 month ones fit my daughter (almost 9 months!)

Ewe · 17/02/2009 20:09

She has some 0-3 month pre walkers so I guess I will have to stick with those.

Hoping she doesn't start walking as it will obviously be a nightmare getting shoes for her!

My neice was walking at 9 months with tiny feet, she had to wear the pre-walkers and the inch blue type shoes (was another make like those but cmae up smaller!) - she was fine, was winter so just let her only walk indoors! Plus research is showing that it is better for them to walk barefoot for the first 8 weeks at least!

spicemonster · 17/02/2009 20:25

The thing is with those soft leather shoes is that it doesn't matter if the shoes are a bit big. You can get really thick socks at babygap too.

Ewe · 17/02/2009 20:30

They had quite a bit of space, she kept tripping over, I may try other brands to see if the sizes come up differently.

She has been able to walk independently for about six weeks she can only do 4-5 steps before sitting down though. Hopefully it'll take another six weeks to master it properly and if she could grow a bit in the meantime that would be fab

just seen that jojomamanbebe do tights with a non slip sole if that helps you any?

abermum · 18/02/2009 10:34

ewe- the girls have size 1 (just about!!) feet and have been walking confidently for about 8 weeks- clarks just looked at me as if i was mad and told me their feet were too small to be walking- until i showed them!

We just put them in slipper socks or shooshoos!

Ready4anothercoffee · 18/02/2009 10:35

dd2 wears tights with thick socks with non-slip soles. Mine came from woolies, but I've seen them in adams, tesco, gap... the combo works well on our wooden floors.

ExtraFancy · 18/02/2009 10:49

Boots sell socks with grippy bits on the soles too.

Bella73 · 18/02/2009 10:59

Shoo shoos are definitely smaller than inch blue, I had DD1 in those for the first 2-3 months of walking as she had tiny feet. Our local Mothercare sells them if you want to try and look at them to check size before you buy?

naomi83 · 19/02/2009 09:19

My son started cruising and walking a little by 10 months but since it was winter we waited to get him proper shoes until he was 14 months and had been walking solo for ages. We used non slip socks or bare feet indoors and buggy with cosytoes outdoors.

tinkislittlemissshopping · 27/02/2009 19:10

my dd1 got cruising clarkes shoes from age of 15 months when she just started to walk but mostly held on still she started doing this a week before christmas so mainly got cruising shoes to keep her feet warm.
she was in them till the feb then we got proper walking first shoes. she was only a size 2
