baby ear defenders - where to get and do they work?

Just wondering as am going to have to take DS1 (6m) to a gig soon, or just not go at all!

Do you think they block out enough noise? Any recommendations?

look at shops that sell things for motor racing fans. I had great ear defenders from being about 3 or 4 from one of those shops, hopefully they do smaller ones

We have the Peltor Kids ones. They work fine, but LO is not too keen on wearing them for too long - she prefers them to loud music though!

The company I use when I make custom made protection for shooters, dj's, indutrial workers, motor bikers etc is called ACS. I don't work with paed's anymore but they are very helpful if you give them a ring I'm sure they can advise you.

Nothing can totally protect hearing as sound will also be conducted through the bones and personally I would not take a little one with me. Then again I would say that in my job!!!

carrielou - what's your job?

Thanks for the info, have been checking out the Peltor ones. I'm just hoping they'll do the job, we're going to the MEN in Manchester and have seats about halfway back I think, am hoping that the noise levels won't be too bad? Am I just being optimistic? I am a bit worried - we took DS1 to a festival when he was 1 and in retrospect we probably should have got ear defenders for that but I assumed because it was outdoors it wouldn't be a problem - don't think it works like that though, does it?

Am really torn. If we don't take him one of us will have to not go, which would be a shame, but obviously am not going to destroy DS's ears!

What if we took it in turns taking him outside, do you think that would help?

I should think taking him outside/further back may be a good idea - but take your cues from him. My DD is not a lover of loud noises and will tell me if she thinks it is too loud (we went to some of her Daddy's gigs). She was much happier when given the ability to choose her listening distance - which mostly involved hanging around at the back with the defenders on. It also gave her the chance to run about a bit more so got less bored (though won't apply to your baby son!). She got quite a lot from being able to go along and be in an adult environment and share an experience with her Dad.
