I'm just sick to death of the rank odour banging off our Tommy Tippee nappy bin. Poor DS's room is tiny, and it doesn't half seem to honk if the nappy bin isn't emptied daily.

Surely there is a better product out there?

TIA

We were given a TT bin when DD was little - they are vile, especially once she went onto solids and her poos were smellier.

With DS, we just put nappies in a nappy bag and pop them into a plastic carrier bag hanging over the door handle in the kitchen. This gets thrown straight into the outside bin at least once a day, twice if needed.

TBH we don't even bother putting just wet nappies into a nappy bag, they go straight into the bag in the kitchen.

Seona1973 · 12/02/2009 22:17

I never used one for ds - wet nappies just go in the kitchen bin unwrapped and pooey ones go in a nappy bag and put straight into the outside bin.

Timeisablindguide · 12/02/2009 22:19

waste of money and space. I too had a TT one which stank. I don't bother now - stick 'em in a nappy bag and straight out to the outside bin.

littleboyblue · 12/02/2009 22:22

I have a TT one too that is rancid! I now put nappies in nappy sack before putting them in the nappy bin, I empty it every other day, sprinkle some bicarb soda at the bottom as was told that might help the smell and I bleach soak it once a week. This has helped a bit, but still stinks.....

AitchTwoOh · 12/02/2009 22:26

if you put a charcoal bin thing into the bottom of the box, it absorbs the smells. i really like our TT thing, never had a problem with it smelling bad. are you lot twisting the thing after putting a nappy in? or sitting the bin beside a radiator or something?

littleboyblue · 12/02/2009 22:29

I twist the thingy and bin lives in the bathroom where the window is open from 7am to 7pm so not warm or anything in there.....weird

pooka · 12/02/2009 22:31

They're well grim. Just shove in nappy sack and outside bin, as already suggested.

Worst money ever spent (though think IIRC it was a gift from work )

AitchTwoOh · 12/02/2009 22:40

lord, your babies shit must really honk...

Timeisablindguide · 12/02/2009 22:41

I did everything you're supposed to and it still stank! My ds1's announcements were far from floral though, it has to be said!

It finally saw its last day when I accidentally chucked the ring bit from the top out in the rubbish with the bags and then couldn't get through to TT for a replacement! RIP.

littleboyblue · 12/02/2009 22:42

Haha Aitch my ds is a little stinker......his farts make me want to pass out!

Timeisablindguide · 12/02/2009 22:44

if any of you saw my other post on the food thread, my boys do like lentil bolognese....nuff said??

pooka · 12/02/2009 22:46

See dd's were fragrant pre-weaning poos. But the bin it still stank and then it occurred to me that was pretty revolting having a bin full of crappy nappies in the bedroom. Minging!

newgirl · 12/02/2009 22:49

sorry i think the nappies just need to go outside as soon as possible

as the kids get older you could have a mat downstairs maybe, and you change them more when out and about so there is only ever one or two that may need to be left in their room - so may as well take it out to the bin

Apparently it's actually illegal to deposit human faeces in the rubbish bin. It's the thing that gets on the bin-men's nerves more than anything, too.

We always pop the poo itself into the loo and flush it away. Then the nappy isn't as stinky, the bin-men are happier too.

Sycamoretree · 12/02/2009 23:09

Wow. That's decided us. The TT is RIP. I thought it must just be us but clearly the product is writing cheques it's erm, hardware can't cash

Bag to bagging and binning. Thanks for all your posts.

Putting disposable nappies in suitable nappy bags and then in the rubbish bin is fine - our bin is full of them and the binmen have never said anything about it...mind you, they can sometimes get a bit overcome by the fumes.....

naomi83 · 13/02/2009 08:29

we triple nappy bag for our two year old son, although to be honest now we only get pooey ones maybe once or twice a day, so we only have to empty the bin once a day, and after the triple bag you can't smell it anyway
