which maclaren?

ever since the mumsnet site redesign, my internet crashes everytime i try to go to product reviews

this time last year i was eight and a half months pregnant and crazy with the hormones. i can find no other reason for how i came to shell out over four hundred quid on a battleship of a M&P travel system. we rarely used it as a pram and while it's been an OK (if blardy heavy) buggy, dd is now v uncomfortable straining in the short shitty straps.

need to get a stroller. assuming it'll be a maclaren cause they always topped all the reviews but am bamboozled as to what they do. product specs on websites look largely identical.

so am i right to just go with a maclaren?
the XT is just a from birth one, right? and the only one that has a seat that goes back?
what is the difference between the triumph and the sport? apart from the fifty quid?

tia

Go for the Mountain Buggy Breeze. The best buggy I have ever pushed. It's small, lightweight, reclines so can be used from birth, can be pushed one handed, easy to fold and very good quality.

Sooooooo much nicer than a Maclaren.

CarGirl · 12/02/2009 20:41

okay your dc is a yearish old

a quest or triumph will be fine. The quest reclines more than the triumph and has a leg rest so if you think your dd will nap for long periods go for a quest.

You pay more for limited editions.

Quest. My ds has just gone 3 and still naps in his occasionally. We've had 2 Quests for ds, one for our house and one for my mums house

swottybetty · 12/02/2009 20:45

oh - do the quest and triumph recline? i assumed neither did. tbh, dd hasnt slept in buggy for months now, so not that much of an issue.

Try not to recoil at the expense of them new! They do come up on ebay/local papers. for around £100+

If I was new to this (rather than 4th time round) I would buy one new and that would be it... No more Phil and Teds, Maclarens, Nippers, Land Rovers, etc.

Phoenix · 12/02/2009 20:47

The Quest doesn't go completely flat but it goes down enough to sleep

CarGirl · 12/02/2009 20:47

the triumph reclines a little and the quest a fair bit more - suitable from 3/4 months.

Breeze is nice but doesn't have a swivel wheel and my dd was too tall for it at 2! Plus MB are in administration......

mckenzie · 12/02/2009 20:48

I have a Quest that should really be looking for a new home swottybetty if you want to get a cheap secondhand one?? I can't remember the last time I used it so I should really recycle. Only any good if you live in or near Enfield of course

southeastastra · 12/02/2009 20:49

lol if you google maclaren, buggies are more dominant than the cars

nickytwotimes · 12/02/2009 20:50

I love my Quest.
It lies back and there is a foot rest too, plus it folds up easily. I manage it on public transprt with no hassle. I got a secodn hand one and it is still going strong for ds, 2.5.

swottybetty · 12/02/2009 20:51

spooky.... i was just about to ...

ive got the triumph, DS is 14mnths. Love it. Easy to push but a pita for hanging stuff on because it tips easily - even though DS is mega chunky.

Hate the shopping basket on it too because you cant access it easily.

but otherwise its fab! We only really use it for supermarket trips and school runs though, otherwise we use the M&P pliko p3 as is reclines to almost flat and has the cosytoes to keep DS snug, and the basket is better.

CarGirl · 12/02/2009 20:52

If you want to splash out on new, I have a new quest for sale £95 delivered - bought it and then dd learnt to scooter and will no longer sit in a pushchair

swottybetty · 12/02/2009 20:55

mckenzie - til yesterday even a secondhand buggy was out of question chez the swotties but something must have changed in the wind cause dh is suddenly saying new not a problem.

that was cost recoiling at the breeze btw.

i bought an M&P footmuff off ebay recently for the travel system. it'll fit a maclaren, right?

swottybetty · 12/02/2009 20:58

jarm - i have a pliko of some sort. how do you find the straps? dd strains out of them all the time, so they slip and pin back her elbows til she wriggles out of them

OP posts:
swottybetty · 12/02/2009 21:01

what is the difference between the quest mod and the quest sport?

OP posts:
CarGirl · 12/02/2009 21:02

I the m&p harnesses are a pain I agree, you can just put on a reins type harness and use that. The idea is to have the harness vry snug.

Once they get to near 2, the plikos are really heavy to push up and down curbs etc.

DanJARMouse · 12/02/2009 21:03

no problems with the straps here, but mine is an old pliko p3 - probably about 4yrs old now. Still going strong though and i love it. Bought it second hand nearly 3yrs ago for £45!

differentCupID · 12/02/2009 21:04

it's just the colour betty. Quest sport iwll have plainer seats, the mod will have a funky pattern on them.

CarGirl · 12/02/2009 21:05

as long as it says quest it's a quest

CHEQUERSmate · 12/02/2009 21:09

I got a Quest from Boots for £63 just before xmas.

CHEQUERSmate · 12/02/2009 21:09

(sorry and I meant to say I really like it)
