Am still struggling to decide which make of oven to buy. Can you all tell me what you have and whether you recommend them? Pretty, pretty please .And what about the ratings A-C how much difference does it actually make? TIA

Well I haven't got a built-under one - mine is at eye level - don't know if they are interchangeable or would be different models. Mine is a Neff and whilst there is nothing wrong with it, I don't find it particularly impressive, iyswim. It's the first one that I've bought rather than inherited with the house and I spent a lot of time choosing it so I am slightly disappointed that I don't love it more!

I have a Neff built-under double oven, installed 2001. It has been great overall, though the element in the main (fan assisted) oven blows every few years. The man from Neff says its because it is a small element for the size of the oven, so doing a lot of work, but this applies to all under-counter double ovens. Still original element in the top oven.

Slightly smaller than an eye-level double or a single oven, but still takes a 14lb turkey in foil at Christmas!

The models have probably been updated a fair bit since then, but I can recommend the Neff. Only thing is if I had my time over again (might be soooner than I think because kitchen units starting to fall apart ) I might go for 'eye-level' double as they are slightly bigger and I have a bad back and le creuset casseroles!

Oh have never heard of Competence Ruby but won't bother looking if you're not impressed!

I guess I shouldn't have put built under in the title really because I just want to know what makes people like regardless of what style they are.

I had thought of Neff but they are quite pricey unfortunately.

Anyway, thanks and keep 'em coming!

Mine is AEG, this one, but I didn't really bother to shop around for different makes - I bought an AEG oven, hob and extractor. I don't use many of the functions, but do find having a double oven very useful, as we are a family of mixed veggies and meateaters, so I regularly make two different meals for tea!

wintersapproaching · 12/02/2009 23:03

in our last house we had a whirlpool and it was great. It didn't blow out a lot of air like our current Neff one does.

We are looking into a new kitchen and are going to change from an eye level one to an under counter one - I find it far too dangerous walking across the kitchen with hot food for worry of triping over one of my children .

Ah ange8 - with that AEG one does having the controls at the side mean that you have a smaller grill? And does it make much difference?

We have a Zanussi one which has been totally fine (only had it about 6 months or so though). Very similar to this one - probably the preceding model.

I love having 2 ovens and the flexibility it offers, and each is a decent capacity too. The only down side to it is that the controls are at toddler height and DD often tries to sabotage my baking by whaking the temp up to max!

Yes, the grill is not the full width of the oven, but it has never been a problem for us. Can fit enough bacon and sausages on it for the two of us that eat them, or put a casserole underneath for browning.

I suppose its a trade off between having less-wide top oven and grill, or having the controls at the top and having one or both of the ovens less deep. I'm pleased with the depth of the top oven, which can have a couple of things in it on different shelves, or can fit a chicken in it. Some double ovens seem to have very short top ovens that only seem to be useful for grilling or pizzas.
