Can you use a soft carrycot e.g. a Phil and Teds or M&P Luna one for overnight sleeping instead of a moses basket?

I know you can use a standard carrycot for this provided the mattress is appropriate and it's ventilated but what about the newer soft carrycots?
I assume you can't but wanted to check...

i use our phil and teds carrycot as it is the only thing dd2 will deign to sleep in. i leave it on the floor so her back is supported.

my hv says loads of people do this as many babies love to sleep in the p&t carry-cot. she beieved it was fine.

My ds2 sleeps in his P&T carrycot in the pushchair but at night he goes in his moses basket. Wouldn't carrycot at night.

claret1980 · 11/02/2009 13:34

Meant to say wouldn't use carrycot at night to sleep in.

I have used it as a carrycot for one night and ds was fine. I probably wouldnt use it for mpre than a couple of nights.

Probably just for a very early baby. As they get older and are able to move around more, I'd worry about them rolling over and the carrycot landing on top of them

MrsBadger · 11/02/2009 13:57

I wouldn't

in fact I chose my pram specifically for its overnightable carrycot

it's not the instability but the fact that if they happen to roll up against the side the squishyness of it means they're more likely to overheat and/or get into breathing difficulties. Same as FSIDS don't recommend cot bumpers for tinies either.

can i ask how cot bumpers differ from a fully enclosed moses baskets which most babies start life in??? I ask as I have put cot bumper on my new swinging crib and DH said, "not allowed those" and I said wots the diff between that and putting baby in a moses basket? he couldn't answer me....

fairimum · 11/02/2009 15:05

I was told it is about them being able to get their heads stuck underneath the bumper?? I tucked mine down the side of the mattress and never had a problem!

Neeerly3 · 11/02/2009 15:26

rightio - will check my positioning

MrsBadger · 11/02/2009 16:33

bumpers are cushiony and padded

moses baskets usually just a sheet over a basket so allow better air flow and aren't as soft
imagine a tiny baby falling face frst into a bumper and not being able to lever themselves away to get their nose and mouth free
