Which car seat - dilema

Rosa · 10/02/2009 13:56

Travelling to the Uk in July and using parents car - for approx 2 months. I have a ( then) 3 yr old approx 13.5kg and baby will be 7mths.
I already have britax Si in the Uk that the baby can use it is rear and forward facing.
Just don't know which seat to get for the 3 yr old. The boosters are mainly for 15kg+ .
We have the Jane Indy here but the car here has Isofix - the Uk no!
Does anybody have any suggestions - I would prefer something with extra side protection and obviously something that can be used in future years. I would like to avoid purchasing another group 1 if possible simply as I will have to get another next year !!!

kiddy comfortpro. Fantastic seat will suit your 3year old until he no longer needs one.

Universal fit too.

Evolva 123 Ultra - best multi stage seat according to Which! and we've been very pleased with it.
Britax 123 Ultra

familygirl · 10/02/2009 15:00

Sorry X post!

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/02/2009 15:02

Britax 23 gets good review from Which, but I think you'll find that they slated the 123 familygirl.

EldonAve · 10/02/2009 15:08

Evolva 2-3?

Rosa · 10/02/2009 15:16

Thanks the 2 -3 says it is 15kg approx 4 yers plus ...

The civic centre has a free car fitting service where they try lots in your car and find you the best one, they are very helpful, if you phone the council they can give you the no.

Rosa · 10/02/2009 15:28

Thanks Poppy but I am in Italy and although parents are very good think it would be a bit much for them !!!
Just been on Which but you have to register £1 to see thereviews

Sorry missed that he is only 3
thread on 3-4-years-plus

What about bringing an infant carrier with you for the baby?

familygirl · 10/02/2009 16:20

Sorry if I'm wrong, but I think it was only slated from a fitting point of view and we've found it fine to fit. Also, combination group seats from 1 upwards will never be rated as good as a single stage isofix, but again related to fitting and smaller children (I have only used for my 13.5kg 3 year old not 9 month old)

Rosa · 10/02/2009 16:55

Eldon - thought had crossed my mind but I am travelling alone with both dc - I have to change flights at LGW and re check in luggage. Knowing that it will be impossible for me to have the buggy on arrival ( unless pigs fly ) I will have to walk with dd1 , hand luggage and dd2 in the baby bjorn.. Can't contemplate carrying an infant carrier as well...Plus I will need to buy one as I have a 0-2 car seat here so might as well buy in the UK.
Will read the other thread thanks.

Britax evolva 123 Ultra, got good Which safety reviews.

trixymalixy · 11/02/2009 13:04

The Which reviews weren't great from a fitting point of view and the fact that it doesn't recline easily, but we have found no problem with it in that respect.

I would never buy a seat that didn't have good safety reviews and it got good safety reviews from Which when they tested it.

It is not as goos as separate stage 1 etc seats but as it's only used in our second car on a rare occasion, I am very happy with it.

amazonianwoman · 11/02/2009 13:33

The Britax 123 ultra is fine - it is much more of a faff to fit it when still being used as a forward facing infant seat (ie harder than eg a maxi cosi priori xp) but once it's in, it's fine (Which just criticised the fitting, not the safety aspect) It's v easy to fit once you're using it as a high backed booster with the adult belt.

I definitely think that's the best option. That's what we went for when DS needed DD's maxi cosi priori but DD wasn't quite heavy enough for a high backed booster.

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/02/2009 08:08

Thanks for the clarification re the Which? report ladies. I couldn't remember the details (dh read bits to me rather than me reading it all), and last time we looked we could no longer find it!

weddingcake · 12/02/2009 08:30

Could you just ask your parents to ask around and see if anyone has an infant carrier you could borrow while you're over here....or even try mumsnet if you tell us what area you're travelling to!

Rosa · 12/02/2009 13:41

Thanks for all your help - Parents are digging out Which - I will be heading to the West Country if anybody is in that area and has one spare . I have tried few friends that I know but they have sold theirs on or they are in use. AM a bit wary of second hand buying unless I know where it comes from !!!

amazonianwoman · 12/02/2009 14:22

A bit cheeky, but do you want mine?! I bought it at the end of 2007, so just over a year old. The fabric just needs a wash due to usual wear (DD never sick in it or anything!) I can guarantee that it hasn't been dropped or involved in an accident (have sold a few things on MN before, and have 100% ebay feedback).

It's now a spare in DH's car but he works too long hours to ever transport her during the week now that she's at school, so we don't need it.

I'm pretty sure I have a sturdy box it could fit into, I'd be happy to courier it.

(I just need to be sure that I can re-insert the 5 point harness - you remove it when you start to use the lap belt)

You are both very kind - (Amazon were you thinking of selling it if so what price were you thinking of ? - It will need the harness I think unless dd puts on a few more kg by the summer)Is it like the one in the link on this thread ?
Loopy I also appreciate your offer and might take you up on it- I am going to be in Cornwall . Its not until July but I need to get things sorted in advance or I will forget or something else will happen !!
