Does anyone have a Mazda 5 or a VW Touran?

We are looking to upgrade our car as mine has a tiny boot, DC2 is on its way so we want one with a huge boot and that has lots of room. We saw a Mazda 5 today and I am in love! Also saw the Touran which looks quite good too.

Any advice on either would be great thanks, DS1 is 15 months and DC2 is due in July

Mazda 5 owner here - but there was another similar thread recently. Will try to find it for you.

Have had no problems with it at all.

Thanks Margo! Would you recommend the Mazda then? Do you have a petrol or diesel? We are looking at both the sport model and the TS2.

The Ford S-Max gets very good reviews (even from Jeremy Clarkson) - I test drove one last week and really liked it

I've got a Mazda 5 - petrol - and would definately recommend it! The sliding doors are fantastic for getting children in and out in tight spaces, and the boot is great. The rear seats are really easy to use, and it is very easy to drive. I've got a 2 year old and baby #2 is due any time now, so we got the Mazda 5 a couple of months ago, and really love it! We looked at the sport version - its got a lot of 'extras' but the dealer warned us about the a problem with suspension which leads to excessive tyre wear on the rear tyres. Don't know how much of a problem that is - just remember him saying that...

Our local dealer has a mazda 5 sport version for £10k diesel 56 reg, and also TS2 model at £11k petrol 08 reg. What one would be better???? Oh and the TS2 is automatic (never driven an auto before!) and the Sport is a manual.

I'll have to find out how we bought it. Very good value - better than our local car dealership.

It's very good - sport and petrol version.

We have a Mazda 5 Sport - and to echo happynappies we have had lots of problems with suspension, however a great car, sliding doors definitely a plus.

We have 2DD's, don't use rear seats all time but great and easy to use when having friends in car. We go camping 'with everything' in ours and honestly don't think another car would do.

OMG we bought the mazda5 today!!!!!!!!!! Got a brand new one for £10.5k (list price £17k) and some extras thrown in so not bad!

We have a Mazda 5 and it was BRILLIANT (sliding doors are an absolute godsend)...

And then we had DS3... Middle seat not big enough for 3 kids in back. Will have to trade in for Ford Galaxy at some point prob.

thatsnotmymonster · 08/02/2009 21:01

We have a Touran and love it. We have 3 dc under 4 so all in big car seats and they fit easily in the back. The boot is huge too!

ilikeyoursleeves · 08/02/2009 21:11

Wilfself can you not put one DC in the back row? That's what I'm thinking we'd do if DC3 comes along, I wouldn't want to have to trade it in again in a few years!

ilikeyoursleeves - bargain! Mind if I ask where you got it from at that price? We're looking for another car, DH would be very happy...

devientenigma · 09/02/2009 16:57

Hi I have a touran and it's much better than the zafira I had before it.

ilikeyoursleeves · 09/02/2009 17:21

Hi amazonian we bought it from Arnold Clark in Stirling, here

I can see that there is still one for sale that's the same as ours. I agree it was a total bargain, brand new with 10 miles on the clock for delivery. I haggled loads and managed to get another £500 off plus a years road tax, half tank of petrol and car mats!

Check if there is an Arnold clark near you, I think they are in England too?

We've just agreed to get another Touran on 1st March. Basically having shopped around again we just couldn't find anything that exactly suited.

Pro: fantastic space - room for 3 car seats in the middle (not loads of room, but they fit), you still have a huge boot, cost very reasonable for the amount of space. Feels very safe driving around and quite well-equipped - so it feels substantial. Ps there is £2000 off all models till 31/3.

Con: I personally don't think the quality is what VW used to be like, our old one is 3 years old and while there were no major problems it had to go in a couple of times for niggles to be sorted out. Dealership always fine though.

Anyway, we were very tempted by the Honda FR-V but DH felt too close to the driver's door when he sat in the driving seat and the boot was small.

Loved the sliding doors on the Mazda but of course one of the dcs would have to sit in the boot and our pushchair wouldn't fit in next to him.

We got a good deal on the Touran and were offered a good deal on the Honda - if you have the money now is the time to buy a car.

WilfSell · 09/02/2009 21:12

sleeves, greenlawn has answered the question for me: back row is good for occasional use but when we have to have a pushchair and loads of kit (eg going away for weekend) there's just not enough room, despite the Mazda's enormous boot.

A shame because we LOVE it.

Would always suggest three fullsize seats for anyone who might have 3 DC
