the best travel buggy-recommendations

I anticipate travelling a lot, at least 2-4 long hauls a year. I now have a 6mo and hope to be pregnant again in 6 months. So ideally looking for something that can be used for both infant and todler. Preferably something that can face both me and out. Then the usual quest for lightweight, easy to carry around/fold in airport, easy to maneuver, reasonably comfortable. Cost not an issue at this point as I will hunt for the best deal or second hand.
I know I won't get all my requirements but was wondering if anyone has a recommendation (or one to sell) based on your personal experience. I own a Stokke at the mo and a recent trip abroad with it has made me want to look- its great for urban living but not too bulky for travelling.

Hi there,

A combi flash is fab for travel although only parent facing with its own car seat

nicolamumof3 · 05/02/2009 21:32

for travelling i would always say a maclaren but won't rear face? only lightweight rear face going to be a bee?

i have just bought a zapp and think it is fab for travelling but won't recline of course. can be used as such a compact travel system to with maxi cosi.

have you thought of renting at your destination, if they're developed countries? There are a lot of companies like that if you Google. Be cheaper and probably a lot more convenient; you could just use a sling for airports.

If that's not a possibility, a Bugaboo Bee is the only one I know of that faces both ways, is light, can lie almost completely flat, fold easily etc. etc. (I have an Xplory too, a Bee was my 2nd choice - the height and carrycot swayed me).

I would say a Bee sounds like it meets your requirements though I hated mine. I would agree with Nicola and say a maclaren. We holiday abroad and short breaks in the UK a lot and just so easy to sling in the car or a buggy bag on the plane.

Depends on what type of terrain you will be in? Having taken my bug cam away in Cornwall when it rained every blessed day it was a total pain in the bum folding and unfolding it in and out of the car. The next time we went away we took the maclaren.

We went away just before christmas I had a good look and chat with a lady with an xplory (it's a marmite pram, I hate it why would you do it??!!) and she loved it but did say it was a very poor choice to bring on holiday and was going to buy an umbrella fold.

Look at the bebe confort streety. The seat unit faces both ways and can lay flat. The car seat easily clicks onto the chassis. It folds down extremely small.

How about the Pliko Switch?

sagalsmith · 06/02/2009 17:08

Wow, Thankx! I never even thought about combined car seat. That sounds like a great option. Never knew that one could hire them as well although looking at the price of strollers, and the amount I expect to travel, buying is probably a better option.

I'm going to research the strollers mentioned here and will try as many as I can and update when I make a decision. Hopefully it'll help other mums.
Oh yes- as for terrain- its mostly shopping comlexes in US and Malaysia/Singapore.
